I am in a cross roads in my career and currently looking for work do to a failed attempt in another field. As I progressed in my professional career I unintentionally moved into business analyst roles doing various things such as data analysis, market research, process improvement, reporting, business intelligence, management consultancy but never actually being a formal Business Analyst with a structured body of knowledge as outlined in the BABOK.
Because of the lack of structure I end up getting bored working as a jack of all trades BA and tried a career move into Financial Planing and it did not work well and I quickly realised that it is not for me and that I am a natural business analyst.
In this context I believe Laura's book was crucial for me to reflect and see what are the options for me as far as career planning goes.
The book is very well written and it gives enormous clarity of what is a Business Analyst career with all its nuances, types and sub types. What one need to look inside to decide what is the next move.
The book is full of practicable and actionable advice on doing self analysis to aid you to decide what is best for you and also to assist you in putting a plan of action for what you want. Even the book will give all you need to decide if BA career is or isn't for you.
Even if you decide that BA is not for you still the book is relevant as far as career planing is concerned.
I am very grateful I got my hands on this book and I highly recommend.
If you want to know what BA is all about and how the profession is like and what it takes to become the best? This book is definitively for you.

Learn by example... a lot of success stories and exercises that can help us achieve our career. Those exercises also help us improve our skills.
    Easy to read!

I am one of those Business Analysts that was doing BA work for decades before hearing about business analysis. Although “How To Start a Business Analyst Career” by Laura Brandenburg is targeted at folks who wish to become BA’s, I greatly appreciated the book as well for providing an overview of the profession, terminology descriptions including types of BA’s and ways to explain and promote Business Analysis.

Business Analysis is a relatively new profession and many of us are struggling with ways to communicate the great value that BA’s bring to an organization. This book provides great tidbits to add to my arsenal of skill sets that BA’s bring to the table. The book also has great networking tips, descriptions of the different types of certifications, and specific resources that provide ongoing sources for up-to-date information on the industry.

For those wishing to begin a career in Business Analysis, there is a lot to like about this book. It is a hands-on workbook that explores not only ways to improve your skills and land a job but also ways to determine if a Business Analysis career is right for you. But I believe others in the profession will enjoy it as well. Thank you Laura for the great resource!

I was provided an early review copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest review.

Good book for those very early in their career or beginners looking to learn more. I follow the author on social media and enjoy her content. In my view, this book could have been either significantly shorter/condensed or at least filled with more templates, tools, and specifics. I found that themes or topic were often repeated or common knowledge for someone like myself who has 5+ years of professional experience in IT.

After reading this book I do not feel ready or very confident to jump into a 'day 1 'scenario as a business analyst, but maybe that isn't the point of this book. The premium content, based on how the author presents and the many positive reviews from the website seems worthwhile for those looking for a quick start advantage.

Unfortunately, the author seems intent on charging premium prices for a deeper dive into the tools themselves and utilization, which today is certainly understanding, but on some level also disappointing especially for those who might stand to benefit in some cases.

Again, good general resource on the subject for newbies or those in early career who are curious or interested and may use this as a springboard to other courses and deeper learning. Before investing more, might want to invest in discovering what is available and can be learned without paying such a high premium.

Laura Brandenburg is a recognised expert in this field and this book brilliantly supports her other support channels. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to be a business analyst - in fact, you may surprise yourself and realise that you may have already been doing many of the aspects of the role in your current or past roles.

Clear, concise and short on technical jargon beyond what you really need to understand. It's a no-brainer people. Invest this small amount. You won't regret it.
