- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2021Purpose:
I got this pack to be my travel carry on bag. Typical load out is about 25 pounds.
Features:
-The straight jacket compression system was a major factor in my decision. It works as advertised, keeping the profile of the bag smooth and slim.
-The pockets / organization features of the bag are good. The front pocket organizes all of the admin stuff. The top pocket is enough to stow the liquids (liquor) and a couple snacks. The main compartment has enough room for a change of clothes, IFAK, and much more. The back sleeve easily holds a computer and ballistic panel.
-The carry handles are well padded and blend into the pack nicely.
-The shoulder pads are enough to keep the 25 pounds comfortable and secure.
-Waste strap is minimal yet enough when needed and tucks away to keep it out of the way when you don't.
I've had this pack for a couple of years and have made dozens of flights with it. It fits easily under the seat on large planes and will just squeeze under on small ones. I like that it is a slick sided concise profile that allows me to carry a lot of gear efficiently.
Overall, this is a good piece of gear that I would recommend to anyone looking to streamline their travel kit.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2019This backpack has quickly become by go-to pack for traveling. This backpack is perfect for a weekend trip or a longer one for those who love traveling with as little as possible. I recently used it on a 4 day trip to Iceland & it was perfect. The main section holds more than enough with plenty of protection. I love the external smaller pockets at the top & front of the backpack for small things & other objects you need to reach quickly during travel.
The outside straps compress things nicely reducing the size of the pack even further. If you travel with a computer or laptop then the additional storage for that is great. I however don’t & find the laptop pocket a bit of a waste of space. I have used it for my tablet, kindle & other small objects.
The backpack is incredibly light even when full & the shoulder straps & hip strap make carrying it a breeze. I’ve had no issues storing it in over head bins & it even fits under the seat in front of you making it the perfect “carry on” piece for those budget airlines.
I’ve only had this pack for a couple trips but it seems like it’s built just like my larger Osprey backpacks which means it’ll be strong like a tank & last a VERY long time.
Don’t let the price scare you. This is the real deal travel backpack for anyone serious about travel.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2019This carry-on is fantastically thought out. I conducted a *very* thorough search, both online and in person, and if you think this bag fits your needs well, I don't think you'll find another bag that does so at a better price point. (I thought this was expensive, until I furthered my search....) Plenty of room to accommodate your 'day at work' gear and a whole other bunch of room to accommodate your 'carry-on clothes for the work-week' gear - provided you pack efficiently, I'm sure (I, personally, don't know of any other way to pack - but figured it's worth mentioning - this has a very comfortable 'carry-on' area, but it's not as big as your typical carry-on). My purpose: a couple days of work travel. My criteria: work stuff and packed clothes and such to be separate, so I can walk off my flight, into my client site, and not worry about showing all my clothes to everyone while I take out my laptop, without having to carry two bags. This bag accomplishes this amazingly well with a laptop pocket at the back, and two front pockets that accommodate your 'work bag' stuff, plus an extra top pocket for small extras that you need on hand! Meanwhile the super roomy middle is just like a (smaller than usual) carry-on! I did also try the 46 - I'm a woman - fairly tall at 5'7", but I still thought the 46 looked like I was going backpacking across Europe on me - so I opted for this one, the 30, which has all the same exact design features, and just happens to be smaller, but again - I'm a super efficient packer, and it's just 3-4 days, so it will work wonderfully for me, and looks a bit more put together on me. I also opted for the castle grey in the end, because I felt it was a more flexible, but still very professional looking color. My husband kept the 46, because even though he technically doesn't need it, he fell in love with it and said we should have 'matching' bags ;-) sure.... He kept the black. I'm super excited about this bag -in fact, I'm going to get the teal one for my son, because from now on, we will never worry about bags in the airport, even when we travel for vacation! We are freeeeeee!!!! hah ;-) As another reviewer mentioned, the one drawback is that there's no bottle holder, but I think I'll be able to figure out a way - and if not - hey, it's the *only* thing I have to hold! :-D
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2020This is a great travel pack. With compression bags I was able to Carry 5 days worth of clothes plus a laptop and accessories. The pack is durable and feels like great quality. The shoulder straps are ok, not the most comfortable but not unbearable. This is a good pack for staying within the threshold for carryon.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2019Incredible, this backpack is amazing. If you’re contemplating a good quality carry on back pack, look no further you have arrived on just what you’re looking for. I spent hours and days looking at backpacks for the perfect carry on bag. This osprey porter 30 is very comfortable, there is so much space-yet still meets most airline requirements for carry on size, I love all the extra zipper pockets. I fit so much stuff in it and it didn’t feel heavy.
After traveling for 3 weeks in Australia with this backpack I will still agree with my original comment. Every flight domestic and international allowed this bag as a carry on. The one thing I will say is that it got pretty heavy walking around the airport and the straps dig into my shoulders a bit, but that’s my own fault for packing it that way.
