8:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. departures, 5 hours, $99
See the waterfalls of the Columbia Gorge in the most intimate and carefree manner possible: by bike and hike. We transport our guests and bikes in comfortable vans, and our guides ride with our very small groups. You’ll get personal attention and the safest experience we can provide.
This tour also visits Multnomah Falls — the most visited tourist attraction in Oregon.
After meeting at our shop, we’ll fit you for bikes and take about a 30 minute drive into the Columbia River Gorge, east of Portland. Here we’ll start at a stunning vista of the gorge, getting on our bikes and riding along the Historic Columbia River Highway to other viewpoints and points of interest. Five to eight miles (8 to 13 km) of biking along gentle, curving, scenic downhills leads us to a number of waterfall hikes (2-3 miles, 3-5 km in total). On some days, after our hike we’ll ride another two to three miles (3 to 5 km) to another beautiful viewpoint of the Columbia Gorge. (Want to ride more? Our full-day Columbia Gorge Scenic Bikeway ride is more appropriate for guests who just want to ride their bikes! The scenic bikeway is one of the most stunning scenic rides from the Peloton library.)
We take up a variety of different routes based on all kinds of factors, from weather to expected traffic to season to the interests and energy levels of the guests. This ride is not appropriate for younger children (we have the limit set to 13 but every child is different so please do feel free to call to chat, or email Sarah with questions or ask about our alternative low- or no-traffic Bike and Hike the Columbia River Gorge Trails) because of the traffic on the Historic Highway. The road has no shoulder, we are riding along the roadway.
A typical itinerary might include:
- Starting at the overlook known as the Vista House, our highest elevation point in the tour (about 760 feet / 250 m)
- A gentle curving ride down to Latourell Falls, about 2.5 miles / 4 km
- A choice between a short or a longer hike to see the waterfalls, smell the flowers, touch the luscious moss around this stunning plunge waterfalls
- Another few rides with up and down hills, about 2.5 miles in total / 4 km
- More waterfalls, views of the Columbia river gorge, and little hikes
- Back on our bikes (if desired) for a 3.5 mile / 6 km ride to Wahkeena Falls
- See this waterfall we call our “spa” before the short hike to Multnomah Falls
- Get our stunning photos and gift shop goodies of the most visited tourist attraction in Oregon
We’ll have different itineraries for busy summer days, special road situations, or mixing it up for variety if you’ve already seen portions of our route. Some days the weather is ideal for a different end of the canyon and we can’t miss it! Your guides have seen this place in every weather and condition and know the best fit for you.
Our tour also provides the most active hiking and visits waterfalls you will not see on other tours, and we keep our tours to 8-9 riders per guide, for maximum safety and comfort. Very often we will have a higher guide:guest ratio. 4.5 – 5 hours, 6 – 14 miles (10-18 km) biking and 2-3 miles (3-5 km) hiking, $99.
