A Giant will be taking over Hudson Catholic football.
Leonard Marshall, 49, who won two Super Bowls with the Giants in 1986 and 1991, will be taking over as head football coach for Hudson Catholic. The announcement was made at a press conference in the gymnasium at Hudson Catholic High School, with alumni, teachers and students in attendance.
"I feel like I'm running for president here," Marshall quipped as he was introduced with a Hawks black and gold jersey with his old number 70 on it. "Father Hall made a tremendous effort to recruit me and bring me here. He told me 'Leonard this is your baby.'
For Reverend Warren R. Hall, and Athletic Director Terrance Matthews they wanted a driven leader who would shape the kids into solid athletes and better students in the classroom and in the community. Marshall was one of 14 candidates in the process.
"One of the things that stands out to me, is that he never came to interview process as anyone bigger than himself," said Matthews. "He came in to interview for a coaching job and that was important to me. He was a man with principles and values."
Marshall runs the Leonard Marshall Football Academy in South Florida for youths between the ages of 8-18. He was a Sports Management professor at Seton Hall University. Marshall will leave that post to coach at Hudson Catholic full time.
Last fall Hudson Catholic football went 2-8, and first year head coach Chris Demarast resigned in February. Just two years ago, Hudson Catholic made it to the Group 2-Non-Public League Finals.
