Carnivine (Japanese: マスキッパ Muskippa) is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV.
It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.
Biology
Carnivine with its mouth opened wide
Carnivine is a green plant-like Pokémon resembling a Venus flytrap. Its circular eyes have small pupils, and it has spiky teeth. Its stem is yellow with green spots, with red and green vines beneath with the appearance of tentacles. It has two arms resembling leaves with three leafy 'fingers' each.
Carnivine is very gluttonous, and is known to have an unruly temper. It is capable of hanging from tree branches using its vines, while its mouth can open to about 180 degrees wide. With its mouth wide open, Carnivine attracts the prey it waits for with sweet-smelling saliva, then chomps down. However, it takes a whole day to eat prey. Carnivine's diet consists mostly of insects and small bugs. It lives in forests and marshes.

Major appearances
James has a Carnivine that debuted in Two Degrees of Separation!, where he retrieved it from one of his old mansions in Sinnoh. The episode also marked the species' debut. James was eventually forced to leave it at the Team Rocket HQ when he headed to Unova so that it wouldn't attract attention as a Pokémon not native to the region.

Trivia
- In Pokémon Battle Revolution, Toxic is depicted as two purple orbs spinning around each other towards the target. However, when Carnivine uses Toxic, the orbs travel erratically. The same animation is used for Spinda.
- Carnivine is the only Pokémon with the ability Levitate that is resistant to the Ground type without the Ability.
- This Pokémon shares its name, possibly by coincidence, with a monster from the Dragon Quest series.
Origin
Carnivine is based on a Venus flytrap.
Name origin
Carnivine may be a combination of carnivore and vine.
Muskippa may be a combination of Dionaea muscipula (scientific name of Venus flytrap) and 空きっ腹 sukippara (empty stomach) or すきっ歯 sukippa (gap between the teeth).
