ABOUT THE TRAINING

INTRO TO HANDSTAND

A strong, stable handstand is the foundation of circus acrobatics, and a whole-body skill that anyone can learn! In our entry-level Intro to Handstand class, you'll be introduced to the three pillars of handstand—lighter, thinner, more alive—and practice the basic handstand form.

INTRO TO ACROBATICS

Get started with Intro to Acrobatics, our entry-level introduction to the foundations of the ancient Chinese acrobatics tradition. Specially created for new students, in this 90-minute class you’ll condition, stretch, and learn the basics of handstands and tumbling, including forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, and round-offs.

People of any age and fitness level can start any of the above classes at any time. Session enrollment is encouraged.

Round out and accelerate your training with one of our Conditioning classes like Circus Bootcamp and a flexibility class like Stretching. Purchase our New Student Pack, try all three and save!

Already have some training? We offer small, advanced classes that offer students highly personalized training in handstands, tumbling, hand-to-hand and partner acrobatics. To learn more about getting approved for upper-level classes at Circus Center, click here.

Dominik Wyss

DEPARTMENT CO-CHAIR

Dominik-Wyss

Dominik competed nationally in various sports (soccer, track and field, snowboarding, and skateboarding). He possesses a solid understanding of the patience, passion, and consistency required in a professional athlete's life. He graduated in 2000 from the Gymnasium Liestal Switzerland with a sports and human biology degree. His passion for human movements led him to seek a career in the same field. The rich Swiss circus culture became the perfect platform for him to express himself. His exploration of the circus world brought him to the Circus Center in 2001. Under Master Trainer Lu Yi (Artistic Director and Director of Acrobatics) and Vladimir Nazarov (Three-Time World Champion in Acrobatic Gymnastics), he pursued his studies in Acrobatics. His mentors encouraged him to explore more than just the physical aspects of acrobatics. Critical thinking, open discussion, analysis, and innovation were expected to comprehend the subject matter fully. Eventually, he became part of the teaching staff for the Youth Circus and an acrobatic trainer for the Professional Aerial program. In 2010 Dominik started working for Acro Sports, where he trained the City Circus. The same year he opened his own acrobatic/fitness studio where he taught a wide range of circus performers, competitive athletes, and recreational classes designed to fit the needs of his clients. After running the Cayuga gym successfully for nine years, Dominik returns to the Circus Center, where he currently offers acrobatic and fitness services.
