CfD premature closure

Please reopen the discussion at Commons:Categories for discussion/2024/11/Category:Abkuh Aliabad.
 ∞∞ Enhancing999 (talk) 08:00, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And what do you want to discuss about? I already explained everything. Stop wasting people's time. --Orijentolog (talk) 08:02, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that this doesn't need a discussion. I have deleted it as an empty category as it seems to have been created in confusion. en:Abkuh Aliabad is a village in the Kashmar County, so images about Kashmar County cannot not be categorised there (unless those are from Abkuh Aliabad village itself, which isn't the case here. As such,  No action needed from here. Regards, Aafi (talk) 08:31, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. POS78 intended to give it for deletion, not discussion. This is not his first time because he don't understand process very well, so I did it for him, and he thanked me for action. Regarding the place, it's not that we have any material for it, categories can be opened even if we don't know coords. But in this particular case, we don't know do we actually have any material from it, because sources about its location are contradicting. Therefore only solution is deletion. --Orijentolog (talk) 08:38, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly is the urgency to close this? Especially as we do have such images.
 ∞∞ Enhancing999 (talk) 09:04, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We don't have. --Orijentolog (talk) 10:12, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's something you can say in the discussion if you believe so.
 ∞∞ Enhancing999 (talk) 10:34, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is no value in keeping a category when we don't have anything to put in it. It can always be created again later if useful. If the creator sole user of the category basically says, "oops, I'm not even sure that's really the name for the place these things came from," which appears to be the case here, there is really nothing to discuss. This could have been a speedy deletion. @Enhancing999: if you know of files that you believe would belong in the category, then there is nothing to stop you from recreating it. This was effectively a {{SD|C2}}, which is a deletion without prejudice. - Jmabel ! talk 19:56, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The question is if we just do as we like (or some admin feels like it today) or if we try to have some reasonable predetermined approach to it.
In the meantime, the name of the place has been edited out from a series of images that initially had it.
 ∞∞ Enhancing999 (talk) 22:47, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just had a similar conversation with Enhancing999 a few days ago when they objected to a different CfD closure. I'm not sure why they've chosen this hill to die on, but I really hope that this doesn't become a pattern of behavior. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 08:17, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In the meantime, an admin reviewed the non-admin closure and completed the missing elements in the discussion. Also, the category is deleted since.

This file is a copyright violation. It is JD Vance's Senator portrait, and the user duplicated it in low quality and claimed to have made it under CC0. Can something be done about this? PublicDomainFan08 (talk) 16:38, 3 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

May be, but we need a proper source, date, author, and license. Currently, there is nothing. Yann (talk) 18:07, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:PLANS Guangxi (LHD-32), This discussion has taken too long and has already reached a good conclusion and solution. --Cwek (talk) 00:42, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't feel confident enough in my knowledge of the copyright policies of various Chinese government entities to close this myself. I'd appreciate if a few more admins have a look (or one who is confident). - Jmabel ! talk 17:48, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr bot Malfunction Again!

Dear Admins and Other Users, The Flickr bot has stopped working for 1 full day now since late December 4, 2024...and it is now about December 6, 2024. The flickr backlog is now 1450+ images. I don't know who can fix the bot and I am not sure what is going wrong. Can someone fix the bot…again. Sorry. AntiCompositeNumber

1 day now. Can someone start the usurping process on wikitech, or is the owner still active on wikimedia? Pinging @Stemoc, as they have helped deal with this in the past. All the Best --Leoboudv (talk) 01:50, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Pinging the maintainers: @Eatcha, Multichill, Stang, Steinsplitter, WhitePhosphorus, and Zhuyifei1999: --Leoboudv (talk) 01:50, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We need to active maintainers for this bot if we want to allow flickr uploads by anyone other than LRs and Admins. If that's too much to ask for, a method to restart the bot, or have it restart itself if it takes too long to review a file. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 04:16, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Comment: Thank you to the user who restarted the flickrbot. I don't know what is the problem with the flickrbot. All I know is that if I had not just uploaded an image today from flickr, I would not have even known that the flickrbot had malfunctioned again. Very scary! Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:03, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Could please any admin revert the recent name change of these categories? ALL German sports clubs' categories have their German name on Commons. The only exemption from that is FC Bayern München now. Mitte27 simply created facts without any discussion before and against the usual practice on Commons. That is the completely wrong way - if Mitte27 wants to change the name he should discuss it before, not afterwards; furthermore this should be discussed generally as FC Bayern München is not the only club that is potentially affected. See my detailed arguments on Mitte27's discussion page, especially those. See also Commons:Categories for discussion/2024/12/Category:FC Bayern Munich. -- Chaddy (talk) 04:41, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Mitte27: It is a proper name (as a subcase of proper noun), what were you thinking? See policy COM:C#Category names, to wit: "A particular individual object (a specific person, building, monument, artwork, organization, event, etc.) generally uses a singular form (but not always). Proper nouns which do not have an established English variant are not translated ad hoc but use the original form."   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 04:44, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In English Wikipedia the club has a title FC Bayern Munich. --Mitte27 (talk) 04:47, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mitte27: This is not English Wikipedia, we are a multilingual project, and we have our own naming standards that reflect our respect for original forms; your form is very disrespectful to our German colleagues.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 04:53, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On your discussion page I already have shown you that the correct name is "FC Bayern München". The club itself says so. Also the English Wikipedia says that in the very first sentence of its article.
Furthermore I have shown you that ALL German sports clubs' categories on Commons have the German name, whether or not they are named in English on English Wikipedia. See in detail in the linked discussion. -- Chaddy (talk) 04:56, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On Wikimedia Commons proper names are given in English. There are no categories like Category:ПФК ЦСКА Москва (PFC CSKA Moscow) or Category:النادي الأهلي الرياضي السعودي‎ (Al-Ahli SC). Why there should be an exception for Bayern? --Mitte27 (talk) 05:06, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mitte27: They probably have established English variants, and see en:WP:OTHERSTUFF. If you continue to insist on violating policy, I will report you to COM:ANU, or concur with a report by Chaddy.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 05:13, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Again: ALL German sports clubs' categories have their German name on Commons. Why should there be an exemption for Bayern München? -- Chaddy (talk) 05:15, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Was there a CfD on this? @Mitte27: controversial category renaming should not happen without a CfD, and if there wasn't any then I am inclined to undo your move. On the one hand: at https://fcbayern.com/en/teams, I see "FC Bayern Munich" on the English-language portion of the team's own website. On the other hand: seems weird to me. Bayern is German (vs. English "Bavaria"); Munich is English (vs. German "München"). Es scheint mir kind of strange, nicht wahr? - Jmabel ! talk 06:50, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
