Google books with Google first page

[edit]

The first page contains lots of text written by Google and may not be on Commons as the text is copyrighted. -- Игорь Филиппов (talk) 08:17, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I removed the google pages from the pdf files and hide the old version. The rest are djvu file. Hopefully somebody can take care of them.

I certainly agree that people should not upload files with Google material. I imagine I was notified on this because of the Carl Schurz file. I originally uploaded pages I had made copies of, but someone managed to replace them with the Google material, and the original pages were deleted. I don't have a problem with the deletion of "Visit of the Hon. Carl Schurz to Boston, March 1881.pdf" as all I need is a facsimile somewhere on the web I can link to, and it sounds like that is possible here. Obviously I would prefer it if the original pages could be restored, and certainly Commons should prevent Google material being uploaded in the future. I don't see that you were notified. Anyway the problem in the file you have mentioned file fixed and you can use it. -- Geagea (talk) 03:08, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Pardon, where in File:Marlinsky.pdf Google text? --Infovarius (talk) 22:36, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I already fixed this file, uploaded new version without the first page and hide the first version. All PDF files her already fixed. The djvu files still have to be fixed. -- Geagea (talk) 01:39, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Geagea, for your great job :) Something else that I would appreciate if someone else got a chance to do would be to delete the remaining first two pages of File:Հայ ժողովրդական դիւցազնական վէպը.pdf which contain the transliterated name, as those are not originally part of the book either. Chaojoker, hopefully now it's ok. -- Geagea (talk) 01:05, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Geagea, for being so helpful :) Chaojoker (talk) 13:52, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Weak oppose - I will admit I'm not exactly following nominators rational, so he may have a point, but I just don't understand it. Ultimately, just because Google decides to claim copyright since is scanned the books, doesn't mean it true. Just as when one of us scans an Pubic Domain image, it doesn't create a new copyright held by us. All of these books are Public Domain no matter what Google claims.--ARTEST4ECHO talk 19:51, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

'Deleted: Public Domain no matter what Google claims. Faithful repro doesn't create new copyright. Just a generic page added. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 01:59, 19 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
