F2C ban

[edit]

Per Special:Diff/937465669, you are now indefinitely blocked from using Commons:Flickr2Commons due to your lack of care to ensure that the transfers are not duplicates, copyright violations, or front-running creators who prefer to upload their own images. King of ♥ 21:18, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@King of Hearts: If you decided to block me based on "front-running creators", then this is very pity, as I can never know which Flickr user wish to import their images by themselves, and they have quite different name on Commons and Flickr. --A1Cafel (talk) 04:30, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The point is not about the fact of whether you are importing images created by people who are also active on Commons, but the spirit of whether you are doing something that disregards others' preferences just because it is legal. -- King of ♥ 06:02, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@King of Hearts: I admit that I under-estimate somepne's preferences at first, but I agreed and made a promise to stop importing from Jelger Groeneveld's (Labrang) Flickr stream, after Krd asked me to respect photographer's request. --A1Cafel (talk) 06:13, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't just about any single issue. The consensus is that your Flickr imports in general have been problematic for many different reasons. -- King of ♥ 07:36, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@King of Hearts: There is still someone opposes it, so it is hardly to say it reached a consensus. --A1Cafel (talk) 09:11, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Many of the oppose !voters were opposing a total site ban, but many of them still noted issues with your use of F2C. So the end result is that basically everyone who expressed an opinion on that topic was in favor of revoking your access (at a minimum). -- King of ♥ 06:27, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@King of Hearts: Fine, I won't argue on this anymore, though I still feel that it is very pity. Do you have any suggestions that what is the appropriate time to appeal it? --A1Cafel (talk) 10:18, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i believe 6 months to 1 year. modern_primat ඞඞඞ ----TALK 16:01, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@A1Cafel, You just had this happen, and you choose to continue uploading from Flickr, but using a different tool that is depreciated and broken? Please take a clue, and don't do Flickr uploads to commons for at least 6 months. Flickr is only one website on the internet, I'm sure you can find images to upload under compatible licenses. If you can't, consider helping import fonts under the Open Font License. No one wants to block you, but its moving ever closer towards that direction when things like this keep hapening. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 04:12, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is a clear violation of the spirit of your F2C ban. When I specified that you may use other means to import images, I hoped that you would understand the motivation behind your F2C ban (hasty low-quality transfers) and refrain from similar behavior such as using a different automated tool, so that I wouldn't have to spell out explicitly what needs to happen. Unfortunately that has failed, so I will be more clear:

  1. You may not use anything other than the Commons website (e.g. Special:UploadWizard or Special:Upload) to upload images to Wikimedia Commons.
  2. You may upload no more than 10 images per day.

Violations will be enforced by blocks. Again, the consensus in the discussion was that you were uploading too many images too quickly without proper care, so these restrictions are intended to force you to carefully vet what you upload. -- King of ♥ 05:26, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@King of Hearts: Just to be clear, can I upload 10 more files today? Or I need to wait until tomorrow? --A1Cafel (talk) 07:04, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You have already uploaded more than 10 files today, so please wait until tomorrow. Days will always be counted using UTC. -- King of ♥ 08:04, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@King of Hearts, See the 13 files uploaded on 18 October 2024 here: [1]. This appears to be a violation of number "2. You may upload no more than 10 images per day.". (This count does not include the single cropped image, also uploaded on the 18th) I am assuming that the "Special:ListFiles" results are shown in UTC as you noted above. -- Ooligan (talk) 23:17, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ooligan: I only see 10. Perhaps you are looking at a time zone other than UTC? -- King of ♥ 02:56, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please check everything carefully before you make such accusation, this is not the first time you make wrong accusation. --A1Cafel (talk) 03:17, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it was not UTC. Sorry, to take your time @King of Hearts, and my appology also to A1Cafel. -- Ooligan (talk) 03:38, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Appeal

[edit]

Re Special:Permalink/957319578#Review: You may now use any tool (such as F2C, Flickypedia, or V2C) to transfer photos to Wikimedia Commons, but are still restricted to 10 uploads per day (UTC). The limit is in place to ensure that you do not indiscriminately transfer everything you can find and to make cleanup easier if your uploads turn out to be problematic. -- King of ♥ 18:06, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

UAE FOP

[edit]

I'm assisting with WLM in the UAE, I have deleted all those you listed without waiting the 14 days so we can purge the cache for judging via montage. We agree there is no FOP in UAE for new buildings. Gnangarra 10:32, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

JWilz12345 suggested to cancel WLM competition in UAE, because it takes a lot of time for users to deal with FoP issues in the country. --A1Cafel (talk) 02:41, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@A1Cafel, what you said needs context, however. That was a past suggestion, however ZI Jony agreed to enforce strict rules on WLM competition in UAE, to only limit eligible buildings to those that were completed before March 1993. One concern was of a different photo competition, with the concern made by a different user. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contributions) 03:05, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See also Commons talk:Wiki Loves Monuments 2024/Participating countries#UAE. Luckily, 98% of the uploads are fine. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contributions) 03:14, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

{{Rename||2}}

[edit]

You put the template like this into a few files like this one File:Photo by Immanuelle of unknown Japanese location-7088.jpg. Is it allowed and normal practice to just put the template there like that to request someone else rename a file? Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 00:05, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Immanuelle: Welcome back. The above template will put your files under Category:Media renaming requests needing target. There is no formal policy on doing this, but I think it can let those who familiar with the topic can perform the rename. --A1Cafel (talk) 03:34, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @Immanuelle: yes, that's pretty normal. Given that others have worked out the city & district, you could probably go in with Google Maps or such, work out just where this was, and give it an appropriate file name. - Jmabel ! talk 20:59, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your deletion requests

[edit]

A1Cafel: I love you for your great pleasure in asking for the deletion requests of images nobody else would care about. Revenge actions, I guess (see here above). --Cayambe (talk) 10:07, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is no any meaning of "revenge" or harming your contributions on Commons, just purely the image is violating the copyright of the creator. Statement like "nobody else would care about" is rejected by COM:PRP. --A1Cafel (talk) 10:12, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi A1Cafel, I'm writing to ask you for clarification about this license change you made. PD-Italy only applies to non-artistic photographs (and only if prior to 1976, because otherwise the photo would be still copyirighted in the US). Is there any particular reason? Thanks, Arrow303 (talk) 22:15, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Below COM:TOO Italy--A1Cafel (talk) 02:58, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could be, although the elephant silhouette is starting to get quite complex, but in any case the template should be {{PD-Textlogo}} {{TOO-Italy}} {{Trademark}}. {{PD-Italy}} is only for photographs produced at least 20 years ago in Italy. Arrow303 (talk) 09:56, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Changed. If you disagree with my TOO judgement, feel free to nominate it for deletion. --A1Cafel (talk) 04:24, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
