Rename request
[edit]The rename request for File:209.jpg may be right, however, in isolation I don't find it meaningful, even when I look at the file description, it doesn't add to my understanding. Would you please be able to review the request, add to the description field, and look to see if there is more that we could do to the name in conjunction with the description. Thanks for looking at this again. — billinghurst sDrewth 03:58, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for reviewing. Right, as you mentioned, it is not enough meaningful yet. Let me see ...
- OK, now I found that this is from the same old postcard, and the place, today, looks like this. --Tokorokoko (talk) 09:35, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Tenmangu --> Tenman-gū
[edit]You made a move request for Category:Tenmangu to Category:Tenman-gū. There are many subcategories with various spelling of Tenmangu. Can you make move requests for those who have to be renamed also and give me a message as soon as you have done that. --Havang(nl) (talk) 21:11, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for reviewing Havang(nl); sorry for late reply. I know what you mentioned, and thank you very much for renaming the big category first any way. That would be a big help for me or someone to work on the many smaller ones too. Thanks!--Tokorokoko (talk) 16:51, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
National Treasures of Japan
[edit]Hi! I am Bamse on en-wikipedia and working on Lists of National Treasures there. I have a question on this list: Why is 六祖恵能伝 listed under 仏教経典? As far as I understand 六祖恵能伝 is a biography and not a sutra. Unfortunately my Japanese is very limited (but I can read it to some extent), so I hope you can help me and translate the above question to Japanese and place it on the talk page. bamse (talk) 19:37, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
- Done - I placed your question translated to Japanese there. (My initial feeling is that it is a good question, and you are probably correct.)
- First of all, I would like to say, as one Japanese, that, thank you very much for working on the List"s" of National Treasures of Japan in English. You have been working on, and made them very informative and high quality lists, with using sortable tables and accompanying the images of most of them.
- At the same time I could guess that it might be simply because they just decided to put it together with 仏教-related items in closest category for convenience, while in fact it is not really a "経典"(^-^?) - Let's see if we can find out. Thank you again for taking your time and making sure that they are correctly categorized. --Tokorokoko (talk) 16:06, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for translation. Even if 伝 is in the meaning of 伝説, it looks a bit out of place as all other entries in 仏教経典 are sutras. I used the sub-categories of this article for three national treasure lists: writings, swords and other crafts. At least in the sword list everything seemed fine (still working on the other two). If possible, I'd also be interested to learn where these sub-categories were taken from. As far as I know, bunkacho, only distinguishes main categories: 書跡・典籍, 工芸品,... bamse (talk) 00:32, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right. I believe those are good questions. → Let us move to ja:ノート:国宝一覧 for further talk, with someone responded.--Tokorokoko (talk) 08:26, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

--Mti (talk) 03:22, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
--Tokorokoko (talk) 14:56, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
--Mti (talk) 20:18, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

Some more uncategorized images
[edit]Hi Tokororkoko, I found some more images from around Tokyo and put them all in the main category, hoping, that you will categorize them exactly. Sometimes I'm doing a little bit of housekeeping in Category:Media with geo-coordinates needing categories, but it's easier to find main categories for a lot of files, hoping one with detail knowledge of the area will do the other work, than searching for details of just some files. So - thanks for your work which is completing mine. --Tine (talk) 14:37, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Category:Horse racing in Japan in artというカテゴリを新設されていますが、語句の中に「in」が2つ続いているので、「Horse racing Art of Japan」に改名してみた方が良いのでは、という提案です。

- 「in」が2つ続くカテゴリ、"-in Japan in art" も、必要。
- は、ponds in (art of Japan/Japanese art) には含めることができません。
- は、ponds in Japan in art には含められません。
--Tokorokoko (talk) 04:57, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Template:ArtJapan/main Category:1931 lithographs of Japan Category:1931 lithographs from Japan
[edit]Can you fix these categories, please? It is a redirection wheel, all 3 categories are linking only to itself... If you are not able to fix it, put a {{speedy|failed editing experiment}} template inside it.
- Good luck! Wieralee (talk) 18:27, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, Wieralee! Thank you for telling me ! ('▽')
- I am sorry, I reviewed it and actually it says the piece is "located in" a museum in Tokyo, Japan. => should be: Category:1931 lithographs in Japan.
- (testing artJapan, is actually for, not only Japan. - slowly, I am now trying to find the way that everyone can simply handle the tree of complexed art categories from different countries: likely can be applied in other genres.)
- and, not only this case,
- thank you so much for your daily reviews and judges, and for helping people on commons. Dziękuję! --Tokorokoko (talk) 03:03, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi, Wieralee! Thank you for telling me !
It is better to check categories we want to use in templates... Category:Art works by date can not be used => it is a redirection only. Fix it, please.
- Thanks in advance :-) Wieralee (talk) 12:06, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
- Dzień dobry, Wieralee! Thank you so much for telling me :-DYes, it is true. Currently, in Art-category-tree we have:
- Art(by date) > Visual arts(by date) > Art works(by date) > and art-genres: {*Paintings(by date) *Drawings(by date) *Prints(by date) *Sculptures(by date) ..etc.} , I think those are in the way they should be, are making sence. no wheels, no com:overcat, with proper parents, tree looks logically healthy. Therefore, the redirection 'Art works by date' should be opened and replaced with the list of art-genres by-date categories such as 'Paintings by date' (correct?) .. I was trying to cover those in a template like "{{ArtCategories}}" or something, and connect the artJapan underneath, after testing, to solve with other countries simultaneously, but we could manually fix those by-date categories first for now. Let me recheck and make sure. Thanks again! --Tokorokoko (talk) 05:00, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
2400:4053:9480:7200:D9B3:3F36:A7E8:F65A 06:20, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Mariobanana (talk) 12:00, 17 December 2023 (UTC)
Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Koku-koen Station to Park.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Koku-koen Station to Park.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Walking people (exercise or sports) has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |
