Swollen eye!?

I woke my 6 year old up from a nap and his right eye is swollen! He cried about it at first and was all upset, so it was red. Now that he's calmed down and talked to me about it, it's not red anymore and he says it doesn't hurt but it just feels funny because it's big. My first thought was maybe pink eye is starting, but it's not oozing anything (yet). And he's had pink eye a couple of times, it's never started out swollen, it usually starts red and gets super oozy. So my next thought was maybe since he was sleeping face down, maybe that irritated it? But he sleeps face down quite often and this never happens....so what are your thoughts??
Whatever it is, I'm glad it waited until school was put, today was the last day! TIA :)

When I was putting him to bed I looked one last time, the eye is still fine, the lid is still big. I did notice a small bump. I wonder if an ant bit his eye lid?! We have been having random ants walking around, not after anything in particular, since it's hot outside now. Hopefully it'll be a little better tomorrow!

  • Is the bump on his eyelid? Maybe its a stye or a chalazion.
  • It's even bigger this morning!!! Still no pain, the eye ball is not red and still no oozing...so I think it's not pink eye. He's currently singing and dancing around while changing out of jammies, so he feels fine otherwise. But geez, poor little guy, it just looks so bad!

It could actually be a stye. Warm compress on his eye. Is it crusted shut at all? I had something stuck in my eye as a kid and it cut my cornea all up. My eye was swollen and crusted shut. I got to wear an eye patch... that was fun haha.

Nope, not crusty/oozy at all, no pain, no redness on the actual eye (thank goodness!). I don't think it's a stye, those are usually at the rim of the lid, his isn't at all and it doesn't look like any of the pictures I've seen. I'm not sure what it is though! He's acting fine and going on about his day normally. I gave him some children's Benadryl after that picture this morning, so hopefully that helps some :/

You can get internal styes on the lining of the eyelid as well. How is he doing today?Any difference after the benadryl? Maybe a bad reaction to a bug bite.
  • It was an ant bite! It didn't get infected or anything, it just got swollen because the eye is a sensitive area....the doctor actually said "the two most sensitive parts on boys are the foreskin and the eyelids" LOL. She gave us some eye cream just in case, but he is much better & back to normal mow :)
