The Buckle GT Tourer is an automobile which was designed by Bill Buckle of Sydney and was built and marketed by him in Australia from 1956 to 1960.[1]
The Buckle featured a fibreglass two door coupe body and a box chassis frame, transverse leaf spring front suspension and a conventional Ford rear axle.[1] It utilised a Ford Zephyr six-cylinder engine and various other mass produced components.[1] The car weighed only 865 kg and could reach a top speed of 160 kph.[1] The two-plus-two seating layout included a fold-down rear seat and the car featured an adjustable steering column and electrically operated door locks which were unusual features for the period.[1]
Despite considerable motor sport success in the hands of various drivers including Buckle himself, only 25 examples were produced including the 1955 prototype.[1] Buckle would however go on to a successful business venture building Goggomobil cars in Australia, the highpoint of which was the production of the Australian designed Goggomobil Dart.[2]
