The LGBTQ+ Leaders Spotlight highlights folks across our campus whose work centers or serves LGBTQ+ communities. These are individuals at UMD who are here to be resources and supports to you. Over the next few weeks, we will begin by introducing the LGBTQ+ Equity Center's dedicated team!
Adam Klager is the program manager for the LGBTQ+ Equity Center at the University of Maryland, College Park. In this role, they lead community-building programming efforts for the center, working with the center's student workers to do so. Adam has also previously been at UMD in various roles working on social justice education through intergroup dialogue courses. In their free time, Adam likes to read, cook, hike, knit, and play video games, as well as volunteer with efforts in downtown DC to help unhoused and incarcerated people.

LGBTQ+ Community Resource Spotlight
The LGBTQ+ Community Resource Spotlight uplifts different LGBTQ+ resources across campus. This week, we will be highlighting the University Health Center's Gender-Affirming Care Services!
The University Health Center (UHC) provides care to trans and queer students, faculty, and staff to support your health and wellbeing on campus. Among other services, students can seek gender-affirming care at the UHC. UHC operates on an Informed Consent Model for Gender Affirming Hormone care (GAC), using a multidisciplinary approach to provide comprehensive care to enhance the safety, success, and satisfaction for our Terps. This requires all patients to take part in a 3-step process which is designed to provide you with the best care and to help you meet your needs and goals.
The LGBTQ+ Equity Center isn't the only office on campus bringing you resources and community-building! Read below for more information on LGBTQ-affirming programming across our campus.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month & Resource Fair
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). DVAM is an annual national campaign to unite advocates across the nation in their efforts to raise awareness of the potential signs of domestic violence and to promote the resources available for support and intervention. Throughout October, a variety of groups and organizations at UMD will be hosting a series of events and activities designed to educate, support, and inspire action within our community.
The Sexual Assault Prevention Committee will host a Domestic Violence Awareness Month Resource Fair on McKeldin Mall on Monday September 30th from 3:00-5:00pm to promote awareness and services related to power-based violence prevention and response on campus. This will be the kick-off event for the campus-wide DVAM calendar and groups will be able to advertise their upcoming events to the campus community.
For any questions or to request an accommodation, please contact Alejandra Galarce Diaz at [email protected].
