Hi, thanks for your comments. Initially I thought that you were just out to auto-fail the article for trivial reasons, but now I see that you're a genuine reviwer. I am working on improving the article in accordance with your comments. However, I have a few concerns:
*The images in the history section - it's a browser issue, I guess related to web standards compliance. It works just fine on IE. I'll try to fix it somehow, maybe with a gallery, but moving the images to the left is ''not'' a good solution.
*About images - this is actually something that really bothers me in many other articles, especially GAs and FAs - not enough images. Redirecting the reader to a commons category doesn't help anyone, and I'm saying this from vast experience as both an editor and reader on Wikipedia. As long as there's no policy or guideline prohibiting the use of images as they are used/placed in the article on Arad, I don't think anything should be changed.

You'll also be glad to know that I fixed most of the other issues you raised (the small ones).

:Just to elaborate on the reason why I thought your initial review was unfair off-hand: notice that the article's subject is a very small town in the middle of nowhere, which isn't really that notable - I think in India for example, which has a billion people, it would probably not be considered notable enough to even mention. Even so, the article is very long (over 40 kB), includes a wealth of sourced information which most GAs even on big cities do not include (see [[Ashdod]] for example), images from all over town, including a couple original ones from the 1990s (!!!), as well as three original maps, including a full street map (I haven't really seen another article on all of Wikipedia which has this, including FAs). In light of all these merits, the only real issues you found were some citation needed tags and a short lead. Hi, Sushant. I'm impressed that you started [[Evolutionary history of life]] as a 16-year-old - at that age I woudn't have known where to begin - and I've been keen on the subject since I was about 11. I have every intention of improving it as much as possible. The old version (e.g at end-July 2008) was far too focussed on molecular biology, and virtually ignored other perspectives (especially geology & paleontology) and important stages in the story (e.g [[microbial mat]]s, which owned the biosphere for over 2000 M years and arguably still do). A buddy and I are the active members of [[WP:CEX]], and hopefully have wide enough background knowledge to provide reasonable coverage. We'll go for GA when we think the article covers the subject decently - huge gaps in coverage were why it was demoted from GA to C-class. The problem is that it's such a huge topic that there's little room for background material. You should regard anythng below the sections I've produced as obsolete, retained only so I can cannibalise them. I'm sorry if that sound harsh, but I've had to be equally harsh with my own writing - [[User:Philcha/Sandbox/LUCA]] contains big section I wrote then removed becuase it's too big and does not stick closely to the main subject - "evolutionary history" = history (narrative, mainly the ''big'' events) from an evolutionary point of view.

::The whole thing is so complex that for now it's best if it's controlled by one person. The "GA" version was poorly structured and looked like a horse designed by a committee - a camel (old UK joke, I don't know if it's well-known among Indians).

Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

WP:IND Newsletter is back! It's been nearly a year since the last edition, but we hope to bring out issues on a more regular basis now. The India Wikiproject was set up to increasing coverage of India-related topics on Wikipedia, and over the past few months the focus has been on improving [[Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Assessment|article quality]]. A number of the project's [[WP:FA|featured articles]] underwent [[WP:FAR|featured article reviews]] over the past year. Of these, [[Darjeeling]] and [[Flag of India]] survived the review process, while the rest were demoted. During the same period, [[Gangtok]], [[Harbhajan Singh]], Darjeeling and [[Mysore]] were featured on the main page respectively on August 20, September 17, November 6 and December 29, 2009. Meanwhile, articles on topics as diverse as [[Political history of Mysore and Coorg (1565–1760)]], [[Marwari horse]] and [[Iravan]] were promoted as featured articles, and respectively appeared on the main page on March 25, May 17 and May 28, 2010. Consequently, the number of FA-class articles under the project's scope dropped from 67 in August 2009 to 63 in June 2010. The number of [[WP:GA|good articles]], however, saw a more than 40% increase, from 91 to 130 during the same period, while the number of [[WP:FL|featured lists]] saw a 33% increase from 12 to 16.

Due to the recent policy changes regarding unreferenced [[CAT:BLP|Biographies of Living People]] (BLPs), an effort was started in January 2010 to source all unreferenced BLPs coming under Wikiproject India. 1200 such articles were identified initially and more were added to the list later. Due to the sourcing effort, the number of Indian unreferenced BLPs is down to [[Wikipedia:WikiProject India/DashBot Unreferenced BLPs|565]] currently. During February-April 2010, There was a [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_talk%3ANoticeboard_for_India-related_topics&action=historysubmit&diff=361437108&oldid=361415052 large scale disruption] of [[Kerala]] related articles by a [[Thrissur]] based IP vandal. Editing from a dynamic IP [[BSNL]] connection, the vandal changed dates of birth, death and ages of a number of [[Malayalam]] and [[Tamil]] film actors. Later he added a few international biographies to his list. He also marked some living people like [[Arvind Swamy]] as dead. A month long range block was imposed on his IP range two times and each time he came back to vandalise dates once the block expired. Currently the range has been blocked for three months till September 11, 2010.

After a missed issue, the WP:IND newsletter is back on track to being a regular bimonthly feature. The Indian WikiProject has seen plenty of online and off-line action, both in English as well as other Indian languages, and we now have a bigger, better format that intends to feature content and news from the English as well as other Indian language Wikipedias.

Reaching out to Indians has been the theme of the Indian Wikiproject over the past couple of months, aiming to involve a greater number of Indians in editing both the English and Indian language Wikipedias. To this end, efforts to set up [[meta:Wikimedia_India|the Indian chapter of Wikimedia]] have moved into their final stages, and registration of the society is currently pending. An effort is underway to push for "WikiMarathons" at meetups, where attendees will be encouraged to edit the English and/or Indian language Wikipedias. This is intended to popularise Wikipedia editing among the general public. In addition, a [https://github.com/srikanthlogic/WikipediaDYKTweeter bot] to post DYK's from the Indian Wikiproject to [http://twitter.com/dykindia Twitter] was created and launched by [[User:Logicwiki]].

Regrettably, the number of Featured Articles has dropped from 63 in June to 58 at the end of October 2010. Several FAs came up for review and were delisted, while [[Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Fundamental Duties of India]] was saved. Meanwhile, [[Chalukya Dynasty]] appeared on the main page on July 9, 2010. Hearteningly, the number of Good Articles increased from 130 to 136 during the same period, while the number of Featured Lists remained constant at 16.

The [[Wikipedia:Bot_requests#Replacement_for_the_late_Article_Alert_Bot|source code for the Article Alert Bot is now available]] and the bot itself is expected to be up and running very shortly. This means that [[WP:INAA|article alerts for the Indian Wikiproject]] will again be available, enabling editors to easily keep track of developments in respect of reviews, nominations, deletions etc. 

The date change vandal mentioned briefly in the [[Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Outreach/Newsletter/June 2010|previous issue]] made a reappearance when the range block on his IP range expired in September. Consequently the block was extended till September 2011.

In October there was a heated [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_talk%3ANoticeboard_for_India-related_topics&action=historysubmit&diff=393196649&oldid=392948652 discussion] in the India project noticeboard regarding the copyright status of the Indian party symbols. The discussion was triggered by the deletion of [[User:Wikiality123|Wiki San Roze]]'s party symbol images by [[User:Hammersoft|Hammersoft]] as copyright violations. No resolution was reached, partly because of our inability to explain to Hammersoft how election symbols in India differ from party logos. Comments are requested from anyone with a background in Indian copyright law to clarify this issue.

*The [http://bn.wikisource.org Bengali Wikisource], which contains the literary works of many prominent writers of Bengali language including Rabindranath Tagore, has crossed the 5,000 pages milestone. According to [[meta:Wikisource|List of Wikisource]] page, Bengali Wikisource is now at rank 21 among 56 Wikisource based on number of content pages.

*The uploading of Tamil technical words donated by [[Tamil Virtual University]] to the [http://ta.wiktionary.org Tamil Wiktionary] was completed in October. The words were donated by the [[Government of Tamil Nadu]] due to lobbying efforts by Tamil Wikipedians during the runup to the [[World Classical Tamil Conference 2010]] (WCTC) in June. Nearly 70,000 words were uploaded increasing the word count in Tamil Wiktionary from 1,20,000+ to 1,90,000+. This has brought Tamil to the 10th place (from 17) in the list of [http://s23.org/wikistats/wiktionaries_html.php largest wiktionaries] and has earned it a place in the [http://www.wiktionary.org Wiktionary front page logo]. In addition, Tamil Wikipedians set up a stall at  the WCTC and introduced Tamil Wiki projects to people from all walks of life.

In addition, Hindi is the first (and so far the only) Indian language to be incorporated into the [http://www.wikibhasha.com/ WikiBhasha] translation and contribution toolkit developed by [[Microsoft Research]].

[[WP:MMU1|Mumbai]] and [[WP:MDH1|Delhi]] held their first meetups in September, where Wikimedia Board members Barry Newstead and [[User:Bishdatta|Bishakha Datta]] met up with Wikipedians and other interested members of the public in these cities. A month later, [[WP:MHB1|Hyderabad]] also held its first meetup.

Wikipedians in Bangalore continued their tradition of meeting up regularly at the [http://www.cis-india.org/ Centre for Internet and Society], with the [[WP:MBL19|nineteenth meetup]] in September featuring Barry and Bishaka as attendees, and marking the release of the [[meta:File:Wikimedia India Community Newsletter 2010 September.pdf|community newsletter]]. Along with Delhi and Mumbai, Bangalore is reported to be one of the three cities in contention for the Indian office of the Wikipedia Foundation.

Wikipedia founder [[User:Jimbo Wales|Jimmy Wales]] had an interaction with Wikipedians followed by a [http://www.slideshare.net/HeadStart/jimmy-wales-at-wikipedia-mumbai-meet-3 presentation] to members of the public at the [[WP:MMU2|third Wikipedia meetup in Mumbai]] on October 31, 2010.

The first [[WP:IWM1|Wikimarathon]], where Wikipedians and members of the public were encouraged to contribute to Wikimedia projects onsite, was held simultaneously at the meetups in [[WP:MBL21|Bangalore]] and [[WP:MCH2|Chennai]] on November 14, 2010. Wikipedians in [[Wikipedia:Meetup/Delhi/Delhi2|Delhi]] also held a meetup the same day. 

The Malayalam Wikipedia held several academies in different parts of Kerala over the past few months.

; Some Tips About References/Sources

Having references included in articles is one of the most important aspects to a good article, let alone Wikipedia! Without them, no one would ever know what is true and what is false and Wikipedia probably wouldn't be where it is today. So this month, I will talk about how to check for references, how reliable they are, and so on and so forth.

The first thing to do when reviewing an nominee is to do a quick scan of the article. One of the things to look for is if the article has references! If you don't see a list at the bottom of the article page, quick-fail it.<ref>Before quick-failing the article, verify that one of the several referencing templates is correctly placed at the bottom of the article. If the template is not placed, try to place it to see if references are displayed. If this proof returns no references, then proceed to quick-failing.</ref> For newcomers, quick-failing is failing an article when you spot a problem before actually conducting a full review. If you do find a list of references (and in most cases you will) make sure to look through each and every one. If you want to save some time, use [http://toolserver.org/~dispenser/view/Checklinks this tool] as it will tell you if there are any problematic references in the article you are reviewing. 

Next, check the reliability and type of the references/sources. In terms of the type of reference, check to see how many primary and/or secondary sources are included. Primary sources are the ones published by the subject of the article. For example, if the subject of the article has to do with the [[iPhone 4s]] and the source is published by [[Apple]], it is considered a primary source. Secondary sources are those ''not'' published by the subject of the article (or in close relation to it). Newspapers are examples of secondary sources and considered one of the better types to include in the article (not saying primary sources are bad). If you find that most/all of the references are primary sources, notify the nominator about this issue(s) and place the article on hold once you have completed the review. Only in the event that a secondary source can't be found as a replacement, then the primary source can remain. If there is a good mix of primary and secondary sources, that is perfect and no references need to be changed. 

Now, reliability. Forums are generally not considered reliable and some blog's may not be reliable either. Newspapers, most sources published by the subject, some blogs, etc. are considered reliable. If you don't know wether the source is reliable, ask for a second opinion. For more info about how to identify wether a reference is reliable or not, visit [[Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources|this article]].

Finally, one of the more basic things to look for is that every statement in the article has at least one reference! The only case that a statement doesn't need a reference is when it is common sense that the statement is defiantly true and/or in the case where the statement can't be challenged, as per what Wikipedia says, "All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable published source using an inline citation."

== March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive ==

It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:

*This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively. 
*Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
*The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
*An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.

Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.

== WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive ==

Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!

[[User:TheQ Editor|TheQ Editor]] recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.

If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.

At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.

As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

== GA Cup ==

Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!

As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:

For all of you that do not know what the [[Wikipedia:WikiCup|WikiCup]] is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.

For more info on the proposal, [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/GA Cup|click here]]. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).

WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/GA Cup|'''GA Cup''']], from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing [[WP:GAN|Good article nominations]]; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers.

Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type?  Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high.  It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition.

== Re-initiating INCOTM ==

It's been almost an year since "[[Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Collaborations_of_the_month|Indian collaboration of the month]]" was active. Firstly we need to restart this as soon as possible for development of India-related articles to greater heights. The [[Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Collaborations_of_the_month/Members|members page]] was blanked, where many of them are inactive. This mass message is to all the members of WikiProject India, about this and interested editors interested will [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Collaborations_of_the_month/Members&action=edit&section=3 sign up]. After this message gets delivered, we'll wait for 7 days before we start a discussion under a thread on the collaboration's talk page, among the members.
