Mercenary

[edit]

The use of the term "mercenary" for Pakistani serving in Bahrain security forces is controversial. The standard definition of mercenary is, "soldier serving in a foreign force, solely motivated by monetary gain." This is however incorrect for Pakistanis serving in Bahrain. Pakistan's Middle East policy is based under the pact of Muslim (Sunni) brotherhood. Pakistan has also made military contribution in other Arab countries, like Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Please see Pakistan's foreign policies for more discussion on this subject. Recruitment of these Pakistani soldier in Bahrain security forces is facilitated by Fauji foundation and Bahria Foundation. And therefore this reflects a veiled official policy of Pakistan military to support a Sunni monarchy in Bahrain. Please see the following news release, in which Pakistan Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar conceded on that Pakistan might be taking sides in a `neo-cold war` between Iran and the Arab world, for its own national interest.
