Mezmerize is the fourth album by System of a Down and the first half of the Mezmerize/Hypnotize double album. It was released on May 17 2005, six months before Hypnotize. if you go into Mezmerize on a computer, if you look at the DETAILS box, you see the dates, sometimes marked as "Last tapered with" and it will say it was made in 1998, some time on the 31st of December.

The album features guitarist Daron Malakian sharing most of the vocal work with vocalist Serj Tankian, splitting the vocals at least halfway on most of the tracks. This album also marks the shift to Malakian as the primary lyricist for the band.
