Eric Sheffer Stevens (born Eric Stevens on June 19, 1972) is an American actor, best known for playing Dr. Reid Oliver, Luke Snyder's (Van Hansis) boyfriend, on American soap opera, As The World Turns.

Biography

Sheffer Stevens was born on June 19, 1972 in Sacramento, California. His family moved to Chicago, then Delaware and finally Connecticut, where he went to high school. He attended Wheaton College in Illinois as a literature major. While there, he became interested in theater arts. He moved to New York and appeared in productions in the Village and Lower East Side. He completed his graduate work, while honing his acting skills, at the prestigious Alabama Shakespeare Festival. Eric then returned to New York to pursue his career. He is married to actress Jenny Sheffer Stevens.

Sheffer Stevens is most known for his role as Dr. Reid Oliver on the American Soap Opera As The World Turns. Sheffer Stevens first appeared as the arrogant, snarky neurosurgeon on January 19, 2010. His character was mostly involved with legacy character Luke Snyder (Van Hansis). The two were later involved romantically. His last day was September 7, 2010 when Dr. Reid Oliver was killed trying to save a colleague's life.

Doctors Without Borders

With the idea of taking something bad (the death of Stevens' character Dr. Reid Oliver on ATWT) and creating something good, Eric's fans decided to raise money for Doctors Without Borders in his honor. Their goal is to reach $15,000 by September 17, 2010, the last air date for As The World Turns. As of September 7, 2010 they reached $15,085 Doctors Without Borders - ESS and a revised goal of $20,000 was met on September 22, 2010. Donations are still being accepted through August 2011. Currently they have raised a total of $22,252 as of December 10, 2010.

The idea to raise money for Doctors Without Borders came from Eric directly. When fans approached him about raising money for a doctor-related cause, Eric suggested Doctors Without Borders, an organization he already supports himself. Various soap magazines and gay media outlets have agreed to cover the story. The Doctors Without Borders official website even featured the effort on their Creative Supporters page

Latest News

Sheffer Stevens played the part of Franklin, a recently divorced college professor, in the low budget film Lefty Loosey Righty Tighty. Producers are currently asking for donations (with rewards) to turn the more than 300 hours of footage into a film and to have it distributed.

The 2010 remake of the Uruguayan horror movie, Silent House, will also feature Sheffer Stevens as the Uncle.
