The Shark has been developed by the MOWAG Company as a private venture specifically for the export market. It is on of many sorts of vehicles constructed by MOWAG (the other Vehicles are discribed on other wikipedia pages). It was first shown in public at the 1981 Paris Air Show fitted with the Oerlikon-Bührle Type GDD-BOE two-man turret armed with a 35 mm cannon and a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun. A further two prototypes were completed in mid-1983. |
In 1982 the Shark was successfully tested in Switzerland, fitted with a French Fives-Gail Babcock FL-12 turret armed with a 105 mm gun and fitted with a SOPTAC fire-control system. In West Germany it was successfully tested with an experimental Rheinmetall turret armed with the Rheinmetall 105 mm Rh 105-11 super low recoil gun which fires all standard NATO tank ammunition, including the APFSDS-T. |
The chassis has been designed to be easily adapted for a wide range of roles including anti-aircraft (eg fitted with the same turret as the Wildcat twin 30 mm SPAAG or the new Swiss ADATS missile system), anti-tank (including missile), fire support, reconnaissance and rocket launcher. Late in 1983 one of the three Shark prototypes was fitted with the one-man turret of the Wildcat twin 30 mm SPAAG system and this was tested in Canada early in 1984. |
Wherever possible proven assemblies, such as engine and transmission, have been used in the design of the vehicle to simplify both training and logistics. How ever the MOWAG Shark never went into production, as alternative to the MOWAG Shark MOWAG build the 10x10Piranha. One of the Shark prototypes is now part of the Military Museum Full in Switzerland. |

== Description == |
The hull of the MOWAG Shark is of all-welded steel construction which provides complete protection up to and including the Soviet 14.5 mm KPV armor piercing round. A 155 mm HE projectile landing ten meters away from the vehicle will cause no damage according to the manufacturer. |
The driver is seated at the front of the hull on the left side and has a single-piece hatch cover that opens to the left. Forward of this are three periscopes, the centre one of which can be replaced by an image intensification periscope for driving at night. A second crew member can be seated to the right of the driver or this space can be used for special equipment such as an NBC pack or for additional ammunition stowage. |
The fighting compartment is in the centre of the vehicle and a wide range of armament installations can be fitted up to and including an FL-12 turret with a 105 mm gun. Full details of the FL-12 turret are given in the entry for the Austrian Steyr-Daimler-Puck Jagdpanzer SK 105 light tank/tank destroyer. |
The engine, transmission and fuel tanks are at the rear of the hull and engine access panels are provided in the top of the engine compartment. The air inlet louvers are in the top of the hull, one either side, while the air outlets at the hull rear. |
Steering is power assisted on the front and rear axles and vertical suspension travel is 420 mm. |
A wide range of optional equipment can be fitted to the Shark including various types of NBC system, passive night vision equipment and fire-extinguishing systems. |

The MOWAG Roland is an armored personnel carrier. The vehicle was developed in 1960 and the prototype was tested in 1963. The Roland production was built from 1964 to 1980. |
Equipment and use |
The Roland was designed for a variety of tasks: ambulance, reconnaissance, armored troop carriers, riot /protests control and as rocket launcher. There is a searchlight mounted on the front, directly behind it is a rotary roof section for a machine gun (MG) or a tower for a heavy machine gun MG, which is operated by the commander. The engine is in the rear, on the left side of the vehicle. On the right side, in the rear and on the left side of the vehicle are a doors fitted for the vehicle occupants to enter or exit. Some African operators have their MOWAG Roland equipped with multiple rocket launchers for 5 unguided rockets.<ref name="jaa87 Foss">Foss, Christopher F. History and Development |
The 1953 constructed T 1 4x4 was modular built: with an open loading ramp, with radio shack as a closed van, etc. In order to keep the manufacturing, maintenance and repair as simple and inexpensive, many parts of the U.S. DODGE car maker are used, especaly from the Dodge WC. The Mowag T1 exist with or without winch. Most MOWAG T1 4x4 were built as right-hand drive vehicles, there were over 1600 cars delivered in 7 different versions to the Swiss Army. MOWAG 4x4 T 1 were also supplied as emergency vehicles to fire departments and the police. The Army used the MOWAG T 1 4x4 until 1995, many vehicles are now in private hands. Three vehicles of the military and police are now in the army museum in Full. |

The 'armored MOWAG 3M1 is a armoredpersonal carrier of the company Mowag from Switzerland . |
History and Development |
Prompted by the development project of the future German Marder armored personnel carrier, which has been evaluated in several trials and test series.MOWAG developed in 1966 the armored 3M1 Model 1 - 6, which is based on the MOWAG pirate. New in contrat to the Pirate was the arrangement of the drive unit in the engine compartment, which is located in the middle of the vehicle. Also, a new feature was the complete production of all drive components such as engine, transmission, and cooling from MOWAG itself. But the 3M1 never get into production. But its development also startet the development of the MOWAG apex gun carriage. Which were manufactured for the Marder series in 2000 pieces in Kreuzlingen and 8000 ball Aperture n (gas density spherical Shooting flaps) and other products from other countries in a total of several thousand units could be delivered. The 3M1 is now at the Full Military Museum. |

The MOWAG MR8-01 (Wotan) is a armored personnel carriers. |
History and Development |
Equipped with 2-axle steering, the vehicle is able to drive a very small turning circle. The arrangement of the engine installed in the rear right is very special and allows the crew to leave the vehicle at the side and rear. Named as special car (SW1 and SW2) was the WOTAN from 1963 on introduced by the GermanFederal police. Thy are build by Bussing Henschel in Germany,in approximately 700 pieces. The SW 1 was referred too as Special Car 1. It have no own armament. The Special Car 2 was similar to the special SW1, however, had a turret with armament: 20 mm automatic cannon or a machine gun MG 1/2 of SW 2b. There are other options such as a mortar vehicles which was built but found no buyers. Built as a prototype the Wotan who was tested by the Federal Border Guard (BGS) is now in the Army Museum Full. |

The armored personnel MOWAG PUMA 6x6 is a armored personnel carriers of the Switzerland company is Mowag. |
History and Development |
As first of family of vehicles with 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 designed and built in the 4x4 and 6x6 versions, the concept of avehicles with different weight divisions was a basis. Especially at the Puma family were buoyancy, high payload, high maneuverability and operability in NBC contaminated area. The 6x6 Puma has the wheels of the first and the third axis are steerabel, enable a tight turning circle, the wheels of the middle axle are fixed . Behind the two rear wheels is a ship propeller. The motor is housed in the front. The Grenadiers leave the vehicle through a door behind the turret hatch in the roof or through a large double door at the rear of the vehicle, this door is the vertical rear end. The Puma yielded important results for the 8x8 armored personnel carriers weapon carrier MOWAG Shark. A prototype of the Puma, who took part in various trials in Switzerland and at presentations at the Gurnigel, in Brugg and Oerlikon Buehrle premises Ochsenboden, is now in the Military Museum Full. But the Puma never went into series production. |

From 1949 gave the PTT (Swiss Federal Postalservice) MOWAG 214 "MOWAG local company car" (German Ortsdienstwagen) the vehicles had a right steering and space for a passenger. From the cab you can get into the cargohold, The cargohold can be left on both sides by sliding doors. The body is made with tapered pins and secured with 4 screws and can be removed easily with the help of Hissösen, the car was very easy to maintain so that the PTT own vehicle maintenance companies could change with little effort within 3 hours the engine and transmission. |

The Nahkampfkanone 1 is developed in Switzerland armored vehicle, of which only a Prototype was build. |
History and Development |
In the years 1943 and 1944 in Switzerland made first experiences with the design and construction of own build armored vehicles. The closecombat cannon 1 was based on a chassis of armored cars 39 (Panzerwagen39 = armored car 1939 type LTL-H CSSR armored fighting vehicles (weight 38t). The chassis is extended by a roller, and produced by the company Berna in Olten. Since only a few parts were available,it was partially resorted to use Parts of armored cars 39, mainly in chassis and transmission. The vehicle was only a makeshift construction. The armor consisted of thin sheet metal and the construction was provisional. In initial experiments, a 75-millimeter cannon was installed for future experiments, a 10.5-cm howitzer. There is only 1 prototype was built and from 1944 to 1947 for experimental use by the swiss army (M + number 7236). The vehicle is now in the tank museum Thun. |

The Nahkampfkanone 2 is a country-road vehicle, similar to the German Tank Destroyer from the World War II. |
Construction |
The tub and the construction were made from the Georg Fischer AG completely in armor steel. The construction of the chassis was at Saurer in Arbon, the assembly of the chassis was made by the company Berna in Olten and the design and installation of the gun part of the K + W in Thun. Driver, commander and judges sat on the left side, right height Richter and loaders. There are four different types (A1, A2, B1, B2) planned, but it was only made one type/ vehicle. The prototype did not reach the troops maturity. There were only made some driving tests in Thun. For traveling was the mouthpiece of the gun be removed. The development was stopped 1947th .It has not a tower, but a fixed structure and a very small swivel range of the gun. The Prototype had the M0216 numberplate had been used from 1946 to 1947 for testing in troop deployment. The vehicle is on display at the Tank Museum in Thun. |

The Saurer 2DM is a truck , which was established by the Adolph Saurer AG in 1959. The payload is 4.9 tonnes, it is a right hand drive. The Swiss army began buying of them in 1964, in several special types, such as dump trucks, snow plows or tanker for aircrafts. Almost identical to the model was 2VM of Berna. The 2DM was also sold for civilian purposes. |

The Saurer 10DM is the last heavy truck model, which was manufactured by Adolph Saurer AG. The name 10DM stands for 10 t payload. The three-axle vehicle has an output of 320 with 6x6 drive. His lighter "brother", the Saurer 6DM has 2 axes (4-Wheel), 6 tonne payload and 280 hp. The vehicles are equipped with six-cylinder Saurer engines and turbochargers, and are connected via a semi-automatic transmission. The models 6DM and 10DM were the first military vehicles of the Swiss Army, which went into operation with NATO structure. The most widespread are the 6DM and 10DM truck as flatbed truck for troops and supplies, but they also exist as firefighting tankers to the military airfields, as a crane truck, as well as Containerransporter for the operating components for TAFLIR (tactical aviator radar) also TAFLIR Radarantenen laid on 10DM trucks established. |

===Saurer F006=== |
The Saurer F006 (also known as Saurer288) and F007 were, besides the by Adolph Saurer AG produced for the Swiss Army cross-country trucks and 6DM Saurer Saurer 10DM, the last vehicle designs of the company. |
*History |
In the late 1970s the F006 from the truck manufacturer Saurer Arbon was intended as a successor to the Jeep for the Swiss Army. In addition, the vehicle should also be made for fire departments as well as work vehicles of community structures, such as road maintenance operations, electricity and water utilities, forest rangers, etc. Selling to private users (like the Mercedes G) was not addressed, but would have been likely on the other hand Montiverdi had been on the Geneva Motor Show 1979 with the civilian version of its 260Z Military. The Saurer F006 based on the Military. The three prototypes of the Monteverdy 260Z, are now part of the Monteverdi Museum in Binningen. |
*Technology |
The Saurer F006 is an off-road passenger vehicle with four-wheel drive. The concept was adopted by the automaker Monteverdi, with Berna further engineered and improved. Saurer took over the production. The axles are from IHC Scout (Jeep a from International Harvester). The vehicle had a plastic body made of polyester. Powered by 6-cylinder petrol engine from Volvo served with an automatic transmission. Maximum speed was 100 km / h in contrast for Mercedes G and Puch 230GE the front turn signals were mounted conventionally on the front of the vehicle (and not on the hood). In the front bumpe rinstalled parking lights can be turned with essays on Tarnlicht. The basic vehicle has a fixed open back cab. the loading / passenger seats are closed with a fast mountable / demountable plastic sheet at the rear with the military embodiment is a holder for a gas canister, for a fireexecutier is a fixed structure provided. |
Saurer presented 1980 the F006 and it was tested the War Technical Department of the Swiss Army in 1982. The F006 had and appreciated off-road capability. However, the Puch 230GE was procured. Without the order of the army it was not aeconomically viable production possible, and it remained in the 24 built prototypes, one of which remained in service until 1988, at the company Saurer's firefighter brigade and was after his service cariere submitted to the Saurer oldtimer club. The remaining vehicles are privately owned. |
*Saurer F007 |
Simultaneously with the Saurer F006 the Saurer F007 was introduced in 1980 as a alternative to the Pinzgauer High-Mobility All-Terrain Vehicle to the public. The F007 uses the same chassis and the same drive unit as the F006, however, unlike the F006 is not the cab behind the engine, but the engine compartment attached (as with many vans). It is therefore called a cab. The vehicle has unlike the F006 a three wiper instead of two and four headlights instead of two, front parking lights and turn signals are housed in the same headlamp shell. The filler neck is on the left side immediately behind the driver's door, and not as in the F006 on the right side between the rear and the rear wheel. The vehicle has a fixed cab which is open to the rear. The cargo area, passenger space is covered with a plastic sheet, including two plastic windows on each side. Again, this was based on the concept of the cab-over model 260 F by Monteverdi. In 1982 such F007 were build in smale numbers or the Swiss Army for testing. Here, too, appreciated the army of the high-road tested prototypes, but bought no vehicles. The existing Saurer F007 are now privately owned now. |

== Saurer MH4 == |
The "Saurer MH4" was a military vehicle of the Swiss Army that was produced by the company Saurer and was used from 1945 to 1985. |
The M4,Saurer Factory designation 4MH, 4-wheeled vehicle, M and H stands for military version for rear engine. It was especially developed as a tow vehicle for howitzers. The vehicle had permanent four-wheel drive, Kegelraddifferenziale front and rear. Many parts corresponded to the execution of the M6 and M8 Saurer nilitary trucks. The engine was almost identical, but had two fewer cylinders. |
The model of 1946 had a Saurer CR1DM the proven engine, four-cylinder engine with 70 horsepower, the newer model of 1952 had a CR2DM engine with 75 HP power. Al MH4l were equipped with a front winch, pulling 2500 kg, cable length 70 meters. Cable movment was only forward possible. The model 1946,had behind the cab side 3 consecutive bucket seats, in the middle room for ammunition, equipment and tools, a tarpaulin roof on steel framework, open sides. |
The Model 1952 had between cab and engine a loading ramp with a small folding side loading, on front and back on that bridge a foldable bench for 4 persons. Capacity increased by around 600 kg to 2250 kg. On Model 1952 also the fuel tank was arranged differently, the content increased from 70 to 100 liters. A new front fascia and a revised hood were also improvements of the model 1952. The five-speed transmission remained unchanged, as is the steering. Since the engine was installed behind a relatively light steering and a good survey showed ahead. |
The close seating arrangement at 4MH was design to achieve the lowest possible car silhouette, the seats were within - and not located on the wheel arches. Consequently, there was only space in center of the vehicle. |
. Stability in the area was compared with the M6 and M8 Saurern, despite the almost identical central tube frame means substantially better. Regarding off-road capability, he stood by his multi-wheeled brothers M6 and M8 in nothing. While pulling heavy trailer loads in the grounds of the rear engine also played out his trump card. |

The MOWAG Piranha IIIC 10x10 is a wheeled tank of the Swiss manufacturer MOWAG. |
History and Development |
With the continuous evolution of piranhas because of the increasing demands and the setting of the project MOWAG Shark as heavy weapons carrier, the capacity limit has been reached with respect to payload. With the built in 1994 built Piranha 10x10 tried to bear this in mind, using a 5th Axis of the same type has been installed. Basically, the Piranha 10x10 was designed as a heavy weapons support, but only a small series was built, for example, for Sweden as a command tank and transmission Kapris LIRKA tanks. The Piranha IIIC 10x10 marked an important development step for Piranha IIIC8x8. The prototype of the Piranha IIIC 10x10, participated in various tests, including in Sweden, now stands in the military museum in Full. |

History and Development |
In cooperation with AEG built MOWAG 37 aircraft tug named Flz Sch 4x2 for the Swiss Air Force. The vehicles were used primarily to move the Dassault MirageIIIS and Mirage III RS in and out of the aircraft caverns. A special feature compared to other aircraft tugs (eg Bucher aircraft tractor) was that in these, the aircraft could be suspended during the journey of the towing hook to keep the time between leaving the cavern and the lift off of the Mirage short. The Mirage began immediately upon leaving the "Vorstollens" to start their engine. Once the engine was running, the latched was realeased by tractor driver and he drove from the plane away and turns to the right, so the Mirage freely under its own power could roll on the taxiway to the runway. The aircraft tractors were in use from 1967 to 2003 by the Swiss Air Force. One is now part of the Full Military museum. |

The Bucher aircraft tractor is from the military vehicle division of the company Bucher-Guyer AG. Following a restructuring of this division it was sold to the company Mowag who is now responsible for spare parts. |
Construction & application |
The bucher aircraft tug is very compact and has to work a very small turning circle for small areas or in confined spaces, as in Flugzeugkavernen or armored aircraft shelters. Since these aircraft tractors are also used in aircraft shelters and caverns, they run on diesel (no spark as in gasoline engines because of the explosion of fuel vapors). For the sake of the health of military personnel in caverns all bucher aircraft tractors are equipped with switchable exhaust particulate filters. For precise maneuvering around the caverns, pilot tunnels and shelters the aircraft tractors are equipped with a special floor lighting headlights - with the light cone of this headlamp the driver must follow the respective ground marking the appropriate aircraft type to be quickly and safely drive in tight spaces. Military aircraft tractors are also on-board power supply of small jets without APU used as well as a tractor for about 1-4 engine start units or for ad hoc transport of mechanics and tools (eg spare wheel and jack a puncture of landed aircraft). |
For driving a military aircraft tractor along with the civilian car driving licence, a driving military drivinglicence is needed. |
Bucher aircraft tractor will be especially used for working with the Northrop F-5 E and F-5F and the Aérospatiale AS 332 Super Puma and Cougar and occasionally used also for Hornet in the past also for the Hawk jettrainer. These aircraft tug can be used without problem for Bussiness aircraft / government aircrafts and rescue aircraft in the size of Falcon50 or CL Challenger, which is especially during the World Economic Forum the case where diveres airplanes are parked on the military Dübendorf Airfield . |
The bucher aircraft tractor is only used by the Swiss Air Force, the only civil customer is JU-AIR for her Junkers 52 on the military Dübendorf Airfield are stationed . |

Development
One of the Shark prototypes is now part of the Military Museum Full in Switzerland.[1]
Description
Full details of the FL-12 turret are given in the entry for the Austrian Steyr-Daimler-Puck Jagdpanzer SK 105 light tank/tank destroyer.[2] The engine, transmission and fuel tanks are at the rear of the hull and engine access panels are provided in the top of the engine compartment. The air inlet louvers are in the top of the hull, one either side, while the air outlets at the hull rear. Steering is power assisted on the front and rear axles and vertical suspension travel is 420 mm. A wide range of optional equipment can be fitted to the Shark including various types of NBC system, passive night vision equipment and fire-extinguishing systems.[1]

The MOWAG Roland is an armored personnel carrier. The vehicle was developed in 1960 and the prototype was tested in 1963. The Roland production was built from 1964 to 1980.
Equipment and use
The Roland was designed for a variety of tasks: ambulance, reconnaissance, armored troop carriers, riot /protests control and as rocket launcher. There is a searchlight mounted on the front, directly behind it is a rotary roof section for a machine gun (MG) or a tower for a heavy machine gun MG, which is operated by the commander. The engine is in the rear, on the left side of the vehicle. On the right side, in the rear and on the left side of the vehicle are a doors fitted for the vehicle occupants to enter or exit.[1] Some African operators have their MOWAG Roland equipped with multiple rocket launchers for 5 unguided rockets.[2] MOWAG Roland vehicles for police units typically do not have a gun, but are equipped with a siren, blue light, searchlight, loud speakers and a V-shaped dozer blade. Over 500 Mowag Rolands were produced and shipped to countries like Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Greece, Mexico, Peru and the Police Departments in Switzerland.[1] The Military Museum has a display of a Roland MOWAG from the Bern Cantonal Police. This model is exhibited with a plow attached and was in use until 1997.[3]

History and Development
In the years 1943 and 1944 in Switzerland made first experiences with the design and construction of own build armored vehicles. The closecombat cannon 1 was based on a chassis of armored cars 39 (Panzerwagen39 = armored car 1939 typeLTL-H CSSR armored fighting vehicles (weight 38t).

Construction

Saurer 2DM
The Saurer 2DM is a truck , which was established by the Adolph Saurer AG in 1959. The payload is 4.9 tonnes, it is a right hand drive. The Swiss army began buying of them in 1964, in several special types, such as dump trucks, snow plows or tanker for aircrafts. Almost identical to the model was 2VM of Berna. The 2DM was also sold for civilian purposes.

Saurer 10DM
Saurer F006
The Saurer F006 (also known as Saurer288) and F007 were, besides the by Adolph Saurer AG produced for the Swiss Army cross-country trucks and 6DM Saurer Saurer 10DM, the last vehicle designs of the company.
- History
- Technology
- Saurer F007

Saurer MH4

History and Development

History and Development
Bucher aircraft tractor
The Bucher aircraft tractor is from the military vehicle division of the company Bucher-Guyer AG. Following a restructuring of this division it was sold to the company Mowag who is now responsible for spare parts.
Construction & application The bucher aircraft tug is very compact and has to work a very small turning circle for small areas or in confined spaces, as in Flugzeugkavernen or armored aircraft shelters.
Bucher aircraft tractor will be especially used for working with the Northrop F-5 E and F-5F and the Aérospatiale AS 332 Super Puma and Cougar and occasionally used also for F/A-18 Hornet in the past also for the Hawk jettrainer.
