Putri Tangguk is Jambi folklore.[1][2]
This Indonesian folklore myth tells the story of Putri Tangguk and her family life.[1] Putri Tangguk is a mother who has seven kids with her husband.[2] Putri Tangguk and her husband are farmers.[1] Although Putri Tangguk and her husband work hard to provide for their children[1], Putri Tangguk realizes that she doesn't take care of her kids well enough because she is too busy working.[1] One day, Putri Tangguk tells her husband about her plan.[1] She plans to fill up their warehouse with rice and other supplies so they won't have to work as much as long as there are supplies in the warehouse.[1] One day, Putri Tangguk walks with her husband and kids to the rice field.[1] Suddenly, she slips because the road is slippery after a rainfall.[1] She becomes angry at the road and curses it.[2] Nonetheless, they continue on to the rice fields.[2] On their return home, Putri Tangguk and her family walk along the same road.[2] She sows a rice paddy on that road so that road won't be slippery again.[2] However, Putri Tangguk quickly regrets this act after she realizes that the rice paddy is important.[2] The lesson of this folklore is to be thankful for what we have.[1]
