Mohamed Abrini is a Moroccan-Belgian Islamic State militant who was likely involved in the planning and execution of the November 2015 Paris attacks and the 2016 Brussels bombings.[1][2][3] He is suspected of being the "man in the hat" seen with Brussels airport attackers Najim Laachraoui and Ibrahim el-Bakraoui.[2] He was also filmed with Salah Abdeslam at a petrol station two days before the Paris attacks.[1]

On 8 April 2016, Abrini was arrested in the Anderlecht section of Brussels.[1]

Personal life

Abrini is a Belgian national of Moroccan descent and was a childhood friend of both Salah Abdeslam and his brother Brahim. He was 31 at the time of his arrest.[1] He had a previous criminal history of violent theft and his brother was killed in Syria fighting for ISIS.[3]
