Well since we are here now instead of at AfD, I'll say what I said there: We are just looking for some significant coverage in independent reliable secondary sources. In particular if we have some history of the school, that would likely demonstrate notability. Once we have that, sufficient to pass GNG, it can return to main space (or we can send to AfC for review). Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 09:04, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This source suggests some celebration of the school turning 125. [1] There is not SIGCOV on the school in this article but there may well be articles about the history written then, or else on the centenary in 1989.
This source [2] mentions the school and Sir Henry Parkes. There is not significant information on the school here from which an article can be written but it is still indicative of the association between Parkes and the school itself.
Noting that this source [3] which is already in the article is very good. It contains significant coverage that is secondary in nature including history. It could be attacked on independence as it is the NSW government talking about a NSW school.
Thanks for the nice assessment up there. These sources were pretty good, and I'm still looking for more sources related to the history of school Yucalyptus (talk) 14:02, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, right @Sirfurboy, a question! About the map graphic on the infobox, how do I create a red border around the school to indicate its location (this is done on other school articles)? I tried to do it, but to no avail. I guess I don't know how. Can you help? Thanks! Yucalyptus (talk) 01:45, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is usually picked up from the Wikidata, which has an open street map id. The bounding box has to be defined in open street map. I haven't done much with those but I'll go see if I can fix that. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 07:02, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! Awesome! Thanks man. Let's hope it works. But most of all, let's hope this article gets accepted into the mainspace. 😂 Yucalyptus (talk) 07:24, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have added it to the wikidata item [5] and tried to specify the wikidata item explicitly on the page. It is not showing for me yet. That could be a caching issue. If not, we might have to ask for help at the village pump. These things can be a touch arcane! Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 07:50, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I can see, this is not working because the page is not linked to the wikidata item, and that is because it is in draft. I can't link the page to the wikidata while it is a draft. May be something to fix later. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 11:34, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Was about to say this, the page being in draft and therefore the map bounding box being ineffective here. They also didn't allow the school's logo image to be put in the infobox because the page is a draft. Odd. About the page being reviewed (and accepted to the mainspace) - Is there any way to speed it up? The last time I submit it, a mod reviewed in the first 5 minutes. Now, after the second submission, it's been nearly 2 days. Yes, I know they say it can take up to 4 months. But that's just a long wait. Yucalyptus (talk) 13:26, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The logo was removed because it was deemed a non free image. Wikipedia cannot use images that are subject to copyright. Images must be licensed under a suitable license such as Creative Commons. Have a read of WP:NFCC. We can have some image, but not that one. The only one I can find on commons is this (see right). If you are local to the school and can take a picture of it, you could upload that yourself to the Wikimedia Commons, and we could use that.
On the AfC review, I expect the reviewers are not rushing to simply repeat the previous review. They want to see that secondary sourcing has been addressed. But as Broc said on their talk page, we don't have to wait for AfC. Either of us could simply move this out of draft whenever we wish. Nothing stops us from doing so, as extended confirmed users. But... I don't recommend it just yet. Draft space is a safe space to develop the page. This page is looking almost ready for mainspace, but we really need to have two good secondary sources (or several not so good) in place before we do so. When it goes to mainspace, anyone can take it to AfD once again. They won't do so if we clearly have demonstrated notability.
So on that: My sources above found one good local history source (a book). It is local, though. We would need a number of that quality to be clear on notability. I also mentioned I think one of the sources in the article is good, but could be attacked on independence if this went to AfD.
My view (and it is only an opinion - but I have seen a good few of these) is that notability at this point is marginal. If we moved it to mainspace now and it went to AfD, I would say that a page such as this would usually be kept - often as a "no consensus" keep. But the more diligent reviewers will raise questions, and sometimes an article such as this will be deleted or redirected. At this point it is a bit of a lottery. It is not helped that it is a primary school, as there is a long standing bias towards only retaining secondary schools - although no notability guideline says that should happen.
So I would suggest finding some more sources. I did search on history, but haven't found much yet. As well as history, notable alumni or staff would be helpful. Mention in memoirs would be great. Any notable events at the school could also all add to this. We don't need much more, but we need a little bit more. When we have it, I'll happily move this out of draft myself. But not yet. Woot! The page has just been accepted! Oh, didn't know that this old picnic image was in Commons - I'll post it to the page soon (in history section). Oh, I do live near the school and I have thought about taking photos of the school. Regarding the logo, I believe it's okay to use it. Logos are allowed, no? Provided they're only used minimally, such as in the infobox. Yucalyptus (talk) 14:43, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
