Benny Lava 4 President!!!!! BENNY! BENNY! BENNY! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.185.211.226 (talk) 16:36, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see what that has to do with the article. Joshuarooney2008 (talk) 14:01, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think its really annoying and juvenille that some idiot internet joke makes it into a supposedly encyclopedic entry on this guy. So everytime some marginal group in the already marginal internet subculture finds something stupidly funny it somehow becomes relevant in an encyclopedic context? There is way too much of this type of crap on the Wikipedia. Yeah its all a big joke to the 13-24 year old crowd sitting in the rooms and dormrooms free editing, but the Wiki is *supposed* to be a serious reference. Just because some stupid joke becomes popular on YouTube or MySpace or Facebook or any other dark corner of "web 2.0" doesnt mean it is in any way important or relevant. Use this as a litmus test: in 8 months, will anyone even remember this stupid joke? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.183.191.74 (talk) 22:18, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't forget Orkut, the most important. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.6.120.38 (talk) 19:52, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who cares...it's not like anyone not searching for Benny Lava will probably reach this page. And speaking as someone who wanted to know what the song was, Wikipedia certainly saved me a lot of trouble with this article. So what if only a few people want to read it? RevenantPrime (talk) 07:37, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I Was trying to find out about the lyrics to the song. So I did a search for Benny Lava, and was redirected to Prabu Deva's. Now I not only know the song, but also some amazing stats, such as 4.5 million views!!!! 4.5 million makes it important enough to be on the page!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.132.131 (talk) 19:19, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mother tongue?

[edit]

One paragraph makes a point of him having Tamil as his mother tongue, another says Kannada. Which is correct? - Syberghost (talk) 20:52, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

His mothertongue is Tamil. I don't understand why kannadigas claim his mothertongue to be kannada. He is 100% tamilian. He looks like a tamilian as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.96.46.246 (talk) 09:44, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When did a lingayat Prabhudeva became tamilian?? lol wake up dude, Cant u see the sources. stop making vandalism edits; (that u hv changed sourced content) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.145.228 (talk) 15:46, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sundaram is a tamil sirname. His father's name as you already know is sundaram. Give me proof that he is a Lingayat. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.180.44 (talk) 08:50, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

His native language is kannada and he was rasied in chennai with his father--Sinjanthu (talk) 15:14, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Frenzy in Brazil

[edit]

I think you guys may like to know that there's a big frenzy around him in Youtube, having been subbed with funny sayings in portugese somewhat sounding like whats being said. Its a phenomenon, search Youtube for "rivaldo sai desse lago" or "golimar" and you'll see, millions+ views and tonnes of comments. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.20.15.33 (talk) 22:12, 1 April 2008 (UTC) .[reply]

Title

[edit]

Move to just "Prabhu Deva." That's what everyone knew him as. 75.57.134.100 (talk) 02:58, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Buffalax

[edit]

Does he really have enough notability to have his name in this article. Can't we not just replace his name with "A YouTube user" or something? 24.226.36.89 (talk) 17:52, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I DUNNO, he did make a video that got over 7 million veiws, thats alot more veiws than the normal youtube user could get, then make 2 more videos thats are in the millions. --66.97.118.113 (talk) 18:01, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Location for "Benny Lava"

[edit]

Should the section on Benny Lava stay here at the actor's page? It seems that a more logical place would be at the film's article Pennin Manathai Thottu. -- GateKeeper(X) @ 11:43, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also can someone confirm if its actually Prabhu Deva singing? or does he just do the dancing? According to the credits in this Youtube Video, the singers are : Devan (Male) & Anuradha Sriram (Female) -- GateKeeper(X) @ 11:52, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Simile for 'babe'

[edit]

I find this unclear. Some additional research tells me that the "babe" is meant in the sense of an attractive woman, as opposed to an infant. Am I alone in this? Joshua Lilley (talk) 00:16, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

After watching the YouTube video I wanted to know more about the original video so I searched for "Benny Lava" and it led me to Prabhu Deva Sundaram. This is what Wikipedia is about, you would never see this article in Britannica sadly. Article is great and useful. Justin Morris (talk, contributions) 03:41, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Signed. I too found this article useful ShadowedBlade (talk) 06:08, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article links the parody with the actual video, and provides context. Deleting it would be Short Sighted. Very useful indeed. User Jvincentt. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.13.41.84 (talk) 22:20, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion it is surely worth Wikipedia. The Youtube video has more than 6 million hits and is already one of Youtube's classics. The article provides extra information about the video and is very useful.--Zummis (talk) 07:58, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You may want to go here to add your comment as a KEEP for this article. That link is the official area to weigh in on deletion or not. -- Quartermaster (talk) 12:57, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of deletion, this should be migrated into the Prabhu Deva Sundaram article, and let search phrase "Benny Lava" be directed there... Many people (like myself) will no doubt be wondering what "Benny Lava" is - so the information in this article has value, but the Prabhu Deva Sundaram article is probably a more suitable place to put it...--85.82.202.9 (talk) 23:50, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Once again, you may want to go here to add your comment for this article. That link is the official area to weigh in on deletion or not. -- Quartermaster (talk) 12:57, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mentioning Caste

[edit]

Dear Editors!
There has been a discussion on India Portal related to mentioning of caste of subjects. The point is that mentioning caste of people, who have nothing to do with their caste, is found to be unnecessary by few editors. Hence the caste of the subject person needs to be deleted from the biography. I am not deleting the caste as of now but am only posting this here so that the regular editors of this article are well aware of it beforehand and no edit-wars take place. For details of discussion held on the portal please refer Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Mentioning_caste_of_Individuals. Your views if any are welcome there or even here.
And.... as the reasons of exclusion of caste pointed out were "irrelavant to notability of subject person", "privacy of the subject person", "inclusion of caste is like branding individuals", etc. other information included in the article which also fall under these cases will also be removed after discussions. Examples of it included religion, non-notable spouse's and children's and parents' information, previous occupation, lived in places, non-notability related educational qualification, etc.
Your views on this are also welcome here or at the India portal. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 09:57, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not here, please. There is a community discussion taking place at WT:INB and I would advise people to read the entire discussion before forming an opinion because the above summary is incorrect. Nothing more need be said here. - Sitush (talk) 01:56, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mysore vs. Karnataka

[edit]

@Mkrishna and Ab207: Re: this edit and similar, based on what I can find, per the New York Times and Encyclopedia Britannica, it seems to me that the state of Mysore didn't get renamed until sometime in the early 1970s. The NYT article from 1972 speaks in the present-tense, but the name could have gone in effect the following year, which would be consistent with the 1973 claim made by Britannica. What I do not see is evidence that the state was called Karnataka in 1956 per Mkrishna's claim. The boundaries of the state may have changed in 1956, but that's not the same thing as it being called Karnataka back then. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:19, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Cyphoidbomb: While boundaries as exist today were drawn in 1956, the name change came into effect only in 1973; November 1, 1973 to be exact. Here is a Deccan Herald source confirming the same. -- Ab207 (talk) 19:41, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
