Melbourne Heart Football Club is an Australian professional football (soccer) club based in Melbourne, Victoria, and will be the 11th official franchise in the A-League.[1][2] The club, which has the current working title of Melbourne Heart, will kick off in the 2010-2011 season and will play at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.[2] Led by Victorian businessman Peter Sidwell, the bid for a new Melbourne team in the A-League received exclusive negotiating rights for the league's 11th licence in September 2008. Sidwell's group was awarded the license to join the A-League's 2010-11 season on 12 June 2009.

Melbourne Heart was founded in 2009 after the announcement of a sencond expansion in the A-League and will become the league's 11th club. In June 2009, it was announced the existence of three separate consortiums bidding for a second Melbourne franchise.

Signings

Peter Sidwell has also stated the he is keen on signing Socceroo Striker Mark Viduka.[3] The Heart is also believed to be close to securing a Dutch coach, after Scott Munn was recently appointed as chief executive.[4]
