Personal Story
Tracy Negoshian has always held a passion for fashion and the allure that through clothes a person can look good and feel confident about oneself.
As a young child, Tracy aspired to be a veterinarian, but like any childhood dream hers gradually evolved and changed over time. Next she thought about being a flight attendant because “they always looked so pretty.” As a teenager, Tracy developed a core work ethic and respect for time management by becoming a champion scholastic golfer [1] while also working nights and weekends to earn extra spending money. Her work ethic continued throughout college working as many as three retail jobs at once in order to put herself through the University of South Florida.[2]
It was in college that Tracy started to recognize that she had a talent for clothing design. To show her school spirit, Tracy would modify team jerseys, add flair and then sport her “new” apparel to South Florida’s games and events. [3] Her fellow students and fans often approached her about where she bought the garment she was wearing. Little did they know, a few hours before, she was cutting, sewing and accessorizing back in her dorm room.
After college in 2004, Tracy moved to Palm Beach, Florida with only aspirations and her resume in hand. She canvassed many of the local businesses (and all of the high-end retail stores on the glamorous Worth Avenue) in search of an opportunity. Tracy’s persistence paid off and she was ultimately hired by Saks Fifth Avenue to be an assistant in their Designer Salon. [4]
While working at Saks, Tracy realized that there are many people who want to be fashionable, but just cannot afford the high price tags of many of today’s designers. Tracy was one of those people. In fact, she would frequently buy clothes, such as wrap dresses, at Target or K-Mart and make slight modifications to them, add an accessory or two, and wear the clothes to work. Ironically, clients would ask her where she bought her clothes or whose label she was wearing… and when she told them, their reactions were priceless. In fact, some would whisper to Tracy that they would like her to go out and purchase similar garments for them. [4]
In 2007, while attending the National Championship football game, Tracy saw women wearing fan apparel that reminded her of her college days and how she would alter jerseys into fashionable garments. Tracy recognized a market opportunity for garments like these.
So Tracy picked-up her life and moved home to Dade City, Florida. Literally from the back room of her parents’ house, Tracy expanded on the concept that she could make college game day apparel trendy, fun and multi-purpose. She created My Team Boutique [5] and began designing garments along the likes of some of the more popular colleges in the Southeastern United States. The response to Tracy’s own designs and color patterns was overwhelming. She found a niche market and was determined to grow exponentially over the next couple of years and emerge from taking orders and packing the shipments all by herself.[3]
However, Tracy soon realized that a three-month season was not substantial and that she needed to explore options for a multi-line approach.
Clothing Line
In 2009, with her own knack for design combined with an innate sense of color and acute sense of style, Tracy created Tracy Negoshian, Inc. -- a multi-line, multi-season label that is trendy, chic and affordable to today’s fashion-conscience woman.
Her early inspirations included the likes of legendary designers Diane Von Furstenberg [5] and Emilio Pucci. [4] Tracy admires Von Furstenberg's ability to craft iconic designs such as the wrap dress, as well she finds inspiration in Pucci's colorful and fun masterpieces.
Tracy's garments are often compared to the likes of Tory Burch, Lilly Pulitzer, Nanette Lepore and Trina Turk at a fraction of the price. [4][5]
Currently, 322 boutiques in the U.S. carry the Tracy Negoshian brand. [6]
