Speedy deletion nomination of Reincloud

Hello Hairhorse,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Reincloud for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Dewritech (talk) 10:55, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Reincloud requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Way2veers 05:02, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A Precaution

Hi there, I noticed you seem to be writing an article about yourself here. Please be aware that doing this is strongly discouraged at Wikipedia (see Wikipedia:Yourself), and the notability of the article may be suspect. Additionally, please note that social networking pages such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and AngelList do not qualify as the Reliable, third party sources that are needed to support a Wikipedia article (patents also do not qualify). If you like, you can make a request at Wikipedia:Articles for creation that an article about you or your company be created, and leave it to other editors to decide whether it is appropriate or not. Let me know if you need any help! Thanks, Mildly MadTC 13:17, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for advice. If I were writing about myself it would be a totally different subject -- do appreciate the guidelines! Hairhorse (talk) 18:15, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(Comment transferred from User Talk:Mildly Mad) Thanks for your advice earlier today! My article has not posted yet. Another contributor/editor told me it was ok to reference social media -- obviously that would have been a faux pas. I am for the time being in a place where I regularly meet fascinating people who have done wonderful things -- maybe I become so passionate about sharing their accomplishments that it sounds as if I am writing about myself. I have done nothing that interesting! Hairhorse (talk) 22:41, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your response. Even if you aren't Mr. Reitan himself, some of the extremely detailed information you included in your article (for instance, the fact that he wrote to a news reporter when he was 10 years old) and your editing history leads me to suspect you may be somehow affiliated with him or his company. If this is the case, please review our conflict of interest guidelines and best practices for editors with close associations. Regardless of your relationship (or lack thereof) with Mr. Reitan, remember that Wikipedia is not a platform for promotion or advertising--the article as it stands now sounds a lot like something you'd find on a resume or personal social networking site.
Please also keep in mind that all information in articles must be verifiable--that is, cited, especially so for biographies of living persons: any material, no matter if it's positive or negative, cannot be in the article if it doesn't have a source to verify it. You mentioned that "Many of Reitan's accomplishments occurred before Al Gore invented the internet, so it is a bit of a project to validate and document references"--note that off-internet articles, books, etc. are acceptable sources, so any information in the article should still be verifiable through these methods. If not, it should not be included.
I should clarify my earlier comment about social media as a source: it is okay to use for trivial facts such as date of birth, but for other items like "things they've invented", social media is considered a self-published source and the information needs to be verified by a third party source such as a news article. I noticed that many of the news articles you're citing are basically a press release from Mr. Reitan's company--which could again be considered "self-published". It would do a lot to establish the notability of the subject if you could find some independent sources that mention him or his accomplishments--if his footprint in Silicon Valley is as big as you say, perhaps there's an article from a tech blog like Gizmodo or Engadget that was covering the event, or some book on Augmented Reality that mentions his contributions?
I know I'm throwing a lot of information at you--creating new articles on Wikipedia is hard work, especially as a new editor! I'm really impressed with your enthusiasm, and I'd like to help you make this in to an article that we can make part of Wikipedia. (You can respond to me on this page so our conversation is easier to read) Thanks, Mildly MadTC 12:28, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
