English: Mrs Lilian Metge joined the WSPU in 1914 and was responsible, allegedly, for the most violent act of the Irish suffrage campaign: the bombing of Lisburn Cathedral. While on trial in Lisburn in August 1914 she went on hunger strike. In recognition, the WSPU awarded her this medal. It was likely the last medal awarded by the WSPU before they turned to support the war.
