Ava Brignol, known professionally as Bava or bava_qt, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and YouTuber. Her songs span a number of genres including Synth-pop, Afro fusion, dance music, and hyperpop, among others.
She is best known for co-writing DJ Snake's 2018 song "Taki Taki", her debut single "Itsy Bitsy," and her viral song covers on YouTube.
Early life
Bava was born in Boston to a Haitian American family. As a child, she began playing piano and fell in love with music. She later attended Harvard University and moved to Los Angeles after graduating to pursue her passion for music.
Career
Music
Bava's sound spans across multiple genres and artists, taking ample inspiration from what she grew up listening to, whether it's '90s R&B, dance music, Compas, classic rock, or Lady Gaga.[1]
Bava released her debut EP (Extended play) "Imitate" in July 2023, which consisted of tracks "Itsy Bitsy," "Imitate," "Back to Me (Me Ma Moop)," "I Wish," and "$EX SELLS." On the creation of her single "I Wish," Bava explained “I was so drained by a past relationship. I felt like my entire identity was wrapped up in theirs; that when people thought of me, they thought of us. I wanted to express that frustration somehow and headed to the piano to try." [2]
As a songwriter, Bava found success with the hit single Taki Taki (song). The hit single is performed by DJ Snake with Selena Gomez, Cardi B, and ozuna. The song was the first pure Interscope release to go to No. 1 at Latin rhythmic and pop formats, and it achieved multi-format success without assistance from Universal's Latin arm.[3]
In the United States, "Taki Taki" debuted at number one on the Hot Latin Songs. The song had a strong international impact, reaching the top of the Spotify Global 50 chart where it has stayed for over four weeks.
As of 2024, Bava has collaborated with Zedd and is featured on Telos (Zedd album), singing alongside him on the song "No Gravity.".[4] Zedd and Bava performed the song together at a sold-out show at Los Angeles State Historic Park on September 7, 2024.
Bava also has a collaboration with dance DJ Matoma and provided uncredited vocals on Zhu (musician)'s Musical Chairs Mixtape (Volume 1).
On October 4, 2024, Bava dropped her single "Closure."
Social media
Bava has seen significant success on social media, with a YouTube following of over 2.6 million on her account, bava_qt.
She has also gained a robust following on TikTok, @bava.qt, where she shares viral videos singing popular music covers and impressions.
