Information icon Hi Linestamp! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. There's kind of a problem replacing a coat of arms SVG image which is 73kb in size with an SVG which is over 5 megs in size, especially when the arms are not all that graphically complex. I haven't fully gotten to grips with the 5meg SVG yet, but I already know that it contains 500kb of embedded raster (PNG) data. I really think you need to slim down the megabyte bloat, and eliminate the embedded rasters, before this will be an acceptable replacement in Wikipedia articles. Thanks. AnonMoos (talk) 09:33, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Your diocese coat of arms images are rather steadily increasing in size, starting at 2.5 megs a week ago, increasing to 5 megs in recently-uploaded images:

[edit]

I downloaded the Coat_of_arms_of_the_Diocese_of_Austin.svg file to my home computer, and it's just too big and complex for me to deal with. I've had success in hand-editing SVG files to remove bloat a number of times in the past, but not this file. I could remove the embedded rasters, but that would only reduce the size of the file by 10%. If there's any option in Inkscape to remove unused code from an image, then click that button, otherwise you may need to rethink the way you make SVGs AnonMoos (talk) 12:20, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK, 345kb is more acceptable than 5.2 megs, thanks. AnonMoos (talk) 20:19, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Coat of Arms of Michael Thomas Martin

[edit]

Hi,

Love that you're redoing the Coats of Arms of the Bishops and Dioceses. I have one more for you. I've added the CoA of Michael T. Martin to his page which is hidden until his consecration this Wednesday. Can you redo that? Thank You..

Bishop John McDermott of Burlington, VT Coat of Arms

[edit]

Hello again,

I searched all over for his CoA but the best I could come up with was this: [1] It's the last photo on the album. Can you do something with this?

Bishop James Mark Beckman of Knoxville, TN Coat of Arms

[edit]

Thanks for the help with Bishop McDermott, The CoA looks great. I have one more request. I have the Coat of Arms for Bishop-elect James Mark Beckman hidden on his page until he is consecrated on the 26th of this month. Could you possibly create that one also? Again, thank you for the help..

Missing Bishops Coat of Arms

[edit]

Hello again,

I can't express how much I appreciate you creating the CoA's for the Bishops. There are 4 Bishops CoA's which I have posted to their individual pages but because my "graphic" capabilities are limited, they haven't been posted to Wiki Commons. They are:

In addition, I had posted the CoA for Bishop Bruce Lewandowski, but somebody deleted from his article though I still kept a copy of it.

New Coats of Arms

[edit]

Hello again,

I added the Coats of Arms for the newly consecrated bishop, Scott E. Bullock and the soon to be consecrated bishop, Dennis G. Walsh. If you can work your magic again, I would appreciate it. Thank You...

.png to .svg conversion

[edit]

Hi,

How do I do that? I've edited a .png version of File:Major League Baseball team locations.svg but I need to convert it to .svg since that is what the original is on Wiki.

Roberto221 (talk) 22:00, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Roberto221
I'm not really sure how to do it since I only upload files that are already in .svg. You could look it up on Youtube, there might a tutorial about that, I'm really sorry. Best of luck👌 Linestamp (talk) 22:06, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CoA of Kevin Kenney

Coat of Arms attribution

[edit]

Hi Linestamp - it's fine and good that you're adjusting and improving coats of arms that others have made, and I want to thank you for doing that with Kevin Kenney - mine was a bit of a quick hack job. However, it's important to include proper attribution. You'll notice on my file of File:Coat of arms of Kevin Kenney.svg the Source section notes where the various SVG elements were taken from - this preserves the Attribution Creative Commons clause that most of them are licensed under. Presenting the entire arms as your own work is technically a copyright violation. you should at very least include my version as something you adapted from to preserve the chain of attribution, but also preferably link to the other elements that I myself linked to that User:SajoR and others made, etc. Thanks! ~Darth StabroTalkContribs 13:30, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hola Linestamp! Saludos --SajoR (talk) 18:40, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Online translation: Hello Linestamp! It is nice to see that you are interested in ecclesiastical heraldry and that you use the templates I made and the colors established by the heraldry workshop of the Spanish Wikipedia, so we can contribute to having a standardized and encyclopedic image. Regarding Darth Stabro’s comment, I think the same, the truth is that I was thinking about leaving a similar comment a few days ago. It is important to include the proper attribution, it is rude and even disrespectful to take the work of others and not include the attribution. I know my work, and most of your work is based on mine. The ideal way to attribute elements taken from another’s work is by using the “attribution template”, as Darth Stabro did with his version of Bishop Kevin Kenney’s coat of arms. Another detail that I noticed is that you are making new versions of existing coats of arms, you only make slight aesthetic changes, you upload it separately and then on Wikipedia you replace the original coat of arms that arrived first, that is also a lack of respect, if the original coat of arms has errors, you can notify the author or make the correction and upload the new version over the original file, thus avoiding filling commons with duplicate files. Greetings --SajoR (talk) 18:40, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Saludos --SajoR (talk) 04:23, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Online translation. Explanatory note: yes, you can change a file on Wikipedia for another one, but only if certain conditions are met, for example if the file has errors or is aesthetically ugly and there is no way to fix it, then it is totally viable to replace it with another of better quality. There is also a preference for the SVG format to the detriment of the JPG or PNG formats, but it is only viable when the file in SVG format is aesthetically equal or superior. Accuracy and quality should always be given priority. A piece of advice for you and Darth Stabro, I see that some of your files in SVG format are larger than a mega, if you use Inkscape, click on “File”, then on “clean up document” and then on save, this allows you to eliminate the garbage that is sometimes generated in the code. Then, make a copy of the final file, open it and then click on “file” and then on “Save as”, a window will appear and in the lower right corner, click where it says “Inkscape SVG”, then choose “Optimized SVG” and click on save, as its name indicates this optimizes the file; I downloaded one of your files that weighs 2.33 MB, applied the optimization and it was left weighing only 177.1 kB.
