TWL HighBeam check-in
Hello Wikipedia Library Users,
You are receiving this message because the Wikipedia Library has record of you receiving a one-year subscription to HighBeam. This is a brief update to remind you about that access:
- Make sure that you can still log in to your HighBeam account; if you are having trouble feel free to contact me for more information. When your access expires you can reapply at WP:HighBeam.
- Remember, if you find this source useful for your Wikipedia work, make sure to include citations with links on Wikipedia: links to partner resources are one of the few ways we can demonstrate usage and demand for accounts to our partners. The greater the linkage, the greater the likelihood a useful partnership will be renewed. For more information about citing this source, see Wikipedia:HighBeam/Citations
- Write unusual articles using this partner's sources? Did access to this source create new opportunities for you in the Wikipedia community? If you have a unique story to share about your contributions, let us know and we can set up an opportunity for you to write a blog post about your work with one of our partner's resources.
Finally, we would greatly appreciate if you filled out this short survey. The survey helps us not only better serve you with facilitating this particular partnership, but also helps us discover what other partnerships and services the Wikipedia Library can offer.
Thank you. 20:32, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

Candace award
Hello, a friend of mine was working on your Candace Award page to copy the data to Wikidata and noticed that it just stops in 1992, but this shows it is still going strong in NJ? Looks like it made a restart in 2003 or something, or maybe it is run as a chapter thing of the NCBW now. In any case, he blogged about it here so maybe you can enlighten him? Thanks for making the list btw. Jane (talk) 09:28, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Jane023: Thanks. I tried emailing the organization when I first created the page, but I never heard back. The award appears to be given by local chapters now, and I don't think they have the big awards ceremony at the Met anymore, but I didn't want to say more without being sure. --MopTop (talk) 12:27, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- Well he said he mailed NCBW too. It's really too bad that things like this are so hard to track down - they probably lost a sponsor. I wonder if someone at the MET knows more? They at least have a more responsive inquiries desk. Jane (talk) 12:34, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- @Jane023: If you learn anything more, please don't hesitate to update the article. Not that I'm unwilling to do any more work on it, but I'm kind of engrossed in something else at the moment. I agree it would be great to have a list of more recent award recipients, which would no doubt include some very interesting and notable people who aren't yet mentioned in Wikipedia. --MopTop (talk) 13:49, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

ANI Experiences survey
The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative (led by the Safety and Support and Anti-Harassment Tools team) is conducting a survey for en.wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with the Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works - which problems it deals with well, and which problems it struggles with.
The survey should take 10-20 minutes to answer, and your individual responses will not be made public. The survey is delivered through Google Forms. The privacy policy for the survey describes how and when Wikimedia collects, uses, and shares the information we receive from survey participants and can be found here:

Add pageant winners to notability guidelines?
Hello, I saw that you were a part of Women in Red and I hope you don't mind me asking a question. I believe that pageant winners are notable people, but unlike sports players I feel they're often considered "not important" enough, even though pageants are extremely important to a large part of the population, including mostly women. I was wondering if you knew of a way to get pageant winners added to Wikipedia's official notability guidelines? That way you don't end up with situations like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Cherise_Haugen
In any case, I appreciate all the work you do, and I understand you must be very busy and may not have time to respond. Have a great day :) Lonehexagon (talk) 18:42, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Lonehexagon: I agree, but I have no idea how to get something added to the guidelines, sorry! I tend to stick to content creation and don't know much about the administrative side of things. --MopTop (talk) 03:19, 12 February 2018 (UTC)

The article Luwanda Jenkins has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Not notable. Candidate for political office, fails WP:POLITICIAN. Sources provided fail WP:GNG. WP:TOOSOON.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:53, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Nomination of Luwanda Jenkins for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Luwanda Jenkins is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Luwanda Jenkins until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. – Muboshgu (talk) 19:02, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Marie Newman
Being a candidate in an upcoming primary election is not a notability claim at all — even being the winning primary candidate who goes into the general election is still far from a notability guarantee, but being a candidate in a primary counts for exactly nothing whatsoever toward notability — and being head of a national organization is not a notability freebie in the absence of enough reliable source coverage about that to clear WP:GNG for it (mentions of it as background in the expected candidacy coverage is not enough.)
But at any rate, it doesn't matter what I think personally: the AFD concluded with a consensus to redirect her to the election article, which means that she has to stay that way unless and until you can do a significantly better job of writing and sourcing significantly more notability than the first version showed. For example, if she wins the election in November, the AFD will obviously be voided at that point since her notability claim will have changed to one that automatically guarantees the right to a Wikipedia article. But you can't just immediately ignore the AFD result and recreate the same article, with the same notability claim and the same or less sourcing as the first time — the AFD result is final until somebody can do significantly better than the first version. Not because I said so, but because that's how AFD works: it's the last word until something changes. And simply adding her middle initial to the title, so as to avoid the original page's title, is not a valid dodge to an AFD result either — that kind of editing behaviour can actually get a person blocked for disruption if they keep trying it.
If you really think you can do better now, then you're more than welcome to work on it in draftspace or your own sandbox — but once AFD has deemed the first version redirectable or deletable, a followup attempt does have to be a better article, with a stronger notability claim and more sourcing for it, before it can be restored to the main articlespace. Bearcat (talk) 17:30, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- Like I said, SHE WAS NOTABLE BEFORE SHE WAS A CANDIDATE. --MopTop (talk) 17:41, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- Then you need to reliably source that fact better than you did. To demonstrate that she was already notable for leading a national organization before becoming a primary candidate, you need to show sources which demonstrate that she was already getting media coverage in that context — sourcing her prior career to mentions of it as background in the candidacy coverage does not constitute evidence that she was notable for the prior career, because every candidate's campaign-related coverage is always going to mention their prior career background. To demonstrate that she was already notable for that work before becoming a candidate, you need to show sources which were already covering her in that context before becoming a candidate — but the only non-candidacy source in your version of the article was a piece of her own writing, not coverage about her.
- Again, you're more than welcome to work on it in draftspace or your own user sandbox if you need time to get it up to scratch. But your version was not showing the kind of sourcing it would take to deem her already notable for other reasons, because the article was not referenced to the kind of sources it would take to show that she was already notable — it was still referenced to candidacy-related sources, not to preexisting sources that showed a preexisting GNG pass for Team Up to Stop Bullying per se. Bearcat (talk) 18:01, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- So I went to investigate this deletion without consultation and found this. And then I came to post this on your talk page and found a long discussion above from another editor. I know that Twitter gives only short messages but you said that two out of three were deleted. Actually it was one. You said deleted "summarily deleted without discussion" ... and then I find the discussion. You may be feeling that you are being treated unfairly. Me too. Victuallers (talk) 23:50, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
Please note, as well, that every deletion or redirection does not always automatically require a new followup rediscussion. If a recreated article does not adequately address the reason why the first discussion was closed the way it was, then the result of the original discussion automatically reapplies without needing a new discussion to be conducted first. To override or overrule the first discussion, you do need to show a stronger claim of notability, and stronger sourcing for it, than was present in the first version — until that's done, there's no requirement to rediscuss the new version again if nothing about it actually represents an improvement over the first one. I've already pointed out several times that you can work on the article in draftspace or your own user sandbox if you need time to make it better — but until it's better than the first version, we don't have to rediscuss it before treating it the same way we treated the first version. You may think it's unfair, but it is one of our rules that if the recreated article isn't better than the first one, then nobody owes you a new discussion before the new version can be deleted or redirected again — your version would have to be better than the first one was before it could be either kept or rediscussed if people still weren't convinced. It's not fair to everybody else to have to spend time individually rediscussing every attempt to recreate a previously deleted or redirected article — so fair or not, our rule is that the first AFD result still automatically reapplies, with no new rediscussion required, until such time as the recreated article is better, making a stronger notability claim and citing better sourcing for it, than the first version was. Bearcat (talk) 19:19, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:American politicians of Italian descent, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Nancy Navarro
Hi MopTop. I think we got off on the wrong foot and part of that was my fault. The article you just recreated was recently deleted by me following a community discussion at WP:AfD. Another editor wanted me to undelete the article and move it as a draft to their user space, which I resisted because I agreed with the clear consensus in the discussion, namely that Ms. Navarro does not pass our guidelines for inclusion in the encyclopedia. After a great deal of back and forth another admin agreed to the request with conditions attached that I mentioned on the talk page. When I suddenly saw the article recreated w/o any discussion, well I was I was seriously ticked off. Following our discussion it is clear to me that you were unaware of any of this and were not intentionally attempting to flout the AfD discussion or the conditions under which it was userfied, and I regret my intemperate language. That said, I'm afriad the article does not correct any of the issues raised and discussed at AfD. If you wish to review our notability guidelines, the two that are relevant are WP:BASIC and WP:NPOL. If you have any questions please feel free to ping me or drop a line on my talk page. Best regards... -Ad Orientem (talk) 06:12, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!
The Original Barnstar | |
Dear MopTop,
I'm a daily if not hourly Wikipedia user, but don't know what ra Barnstars is. Anyway -- your edit to the Barbara Rubin page contains information that I don't think is found anywhere else, and intrigues me beyond reckoning. To be specific, because I can see you have edited a lot of pages, the information that Barbara Gladstone appeared in Christmas on Earth is huge to me. I'm a researcher working on Steve Dwoskin, a New York-born underground filmmaker who for sure crossed paths with Barbara Rubin, and who, ~five~ years later, made a film in London with a Martha Graham-trained dancer called Barbara Gladstone. It must be her. It must! I don't believe Gerard Malanga has said this anywhere else. Did he say anything more? Do you know anything about her? Could you email me under your government name so I can cite you? Best wishes, Henry (h.k.miller@reading.ac.uk) Walter C Mycroft (talk) 18:07, 24 January 2020 (UTC) |

The article The Neighborhoods has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Lack of notability
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 05:26, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary!
