Thick AND chimey.
A friend of my family (for reasons I cannot begin to comprehend) gave me a couple of these gold coins when I was about 27. I wasn't sure what purpose they could serve since they are (to the best of my knowledge) no longer legal tender. I filed one edge on each into point and use them as guitar picks. The gold is easy on your strings because its so soft for a metal. It has a thick midrange and chimey attack. You can also use the ridged edges on the non-filed side to create some cool effects like Brian May and his English pence. I later branched out into older gold pieces that are purer (as in a higher or even unadulterated gold content), but I still prefer the original 2 gold coin picks I made. I don't use these a lot, but there are certain parts where nothing else will do. The weight of these things really effects the way you play. Makes you more aware of your touch and dynamics.
