LAKKE WINNEBAGO - Sunday marks the 9th day for sturgeon spearing season.

The DNR says 28 fish were harvested and the stations on the east shore of Lake Winnebago were the busiest.

"There was one fish larger than 100 pounds harvested today, and that fish was Robert Klassa's 73", 105.9 pound female that he registered at Jerry's Bar," said Ryan Koenigs a senior fisheries biologist with the DNR.

Koenigs says 12 percent of license holders get a fish in a given season.

On Saturday 32 fish were harvested.

The busiest stations were Stockbridge and Quinney. Each registered nine fish.

"I made a loop around the lake today, stopping at many of our registration stations and there definitely have been a lot of shacks removed from the lake over the last few days with the warmer weather," Koenigs said.

Koenigs says during opening weekend, the southern end of the lake had the most shanties but now the Quinney and Stockbridge have the most shacks.

The largest fish harvested Saturday came in at 78" and almost 130 pounds. It was registered at Jerry's Bar in Oshkosh by Dale Gudden.

"Dale's fish is the 3rd heaviest fish speared this season, exceeded only by Daniel Bloesl's 147.9 pound fish on Monday and Jeremey Witzel's 131.6 pound fish on opening day," Koenigs said.
