But he wasn’t a one-dimensional player for the Crusaders.
Holt was one of the team’s top hitters and played first base when not pitching.
The combination helped him earn MLive.com Muskegon Chronicle Player of the Year honors. Tyler Trovinger from Mona Shores also was considered for the award.
Holt, a senior left-hander, had a 13-0 pitching record, batted .450 and led the Crusaders to the Division 4 state title.
"He was, as it turned out, our ace as freshman, and when he took the mound, we felt he had a chance to win the game, no matter who we were playing," Muskegon Catholic Central coach Steve Schuitema said.
Holt’s last loss came in the state semifinals as a freshman.
He won 28 consecutive games after that, including a 10-8 decision against Centreville in the Division 4 state finals to wrap up his high school career that also included back-to-back state titles in football.
Holt finished with a 1.50 ERA with 60 strikeouts and 15 walks in 70 innings of work. At the plate, he had 53 RBIs, scored 43 runs and was 23-for-23 on stolen bases. Holt has signed to play baseball at Hope College.
