Punk Christianity
At first thought you would not think Christianity and Punk would be a good combination because one espouses peace, tolerance and a love of God while the other has a violent reputation however this is far from the truth.
The Punk movement as we all know grew from bands like the Sex Pistols, Clash etc in the 70s and before that with American bands like the Ramones. Secular Punk is still around today although perhaps not in the mainstream music scene so much but up and down the UK there what are called 'Rebellion' festivals like the one in Blackpool held at 'The Winter Gardens' where Punks old and young gather.
Christian Punk grew out of the 'Jesus Movement' in the 1980's and it was regarded as a sub genre of rock music and an element in the general Christian music movement incorporating all styles.
Some people in Christian music do not accept it because they say it has a violent or anarchistic image however bands like the Crucified self id themselves as Christian Punk and they are a band who broke up once and are back together now definitely under the umbrella of Christian Punk.
Green Day are sometimes said to be Christian as evidence their collaboration with U2 but some say they are not so I would advise the reader to do their own research. Other Punk bands who self id themselves as Christian do not like to be lumped in with Christian music per se and thats not because they are not believers its because they like to be a law unto themselves as is stereotypical of Punk whether secular or Christian.
Christian Punk tends not to be too political like the secular version who advocate revolution or wear the 'A' for 'Anarchy' symbol but that said some Christian Punk bands were and are political some criticising the church as being too formal while others attacking the unfair politics on the poor in secular society.
Fashion is similar to standard secular Punk and the difference being in the symbols they wear like instead of wearing swastikas or left wing symbols they will wear crosses or Chi Rho symbols.
Christian Anarchism.
1) Christianity claimed by some to be anarchistic.
2) Christian movements like the Catholic Workers Party advocate some anarchy.
3) Sermon on Mount revolutionary.
4) Many are vegetarians and Punk influenced or even Hippie.
5) Leo Tolstoy's book 'Kingdom Of God Is Within You' good Christian Anarchistic reading.
6) Book Of Judges in the Bible also regarded as anarchistic.
7) Believe Earthly powers ruled by Devil.
