Australian kidsnet ABC Kids has snagged new live-action series Stripy Sock Club. The 18 x seven-minute show is among Screen Australia’s most recent funding projects and will split US$558,000 (AUS$800,000) with four others. It is also receiving funding support from the Australian Children’s Television Foundation.

Starring Australian music group Lah-Lah, the series will follow the musicians as they work together to solve problems and learn about new musical instruments. It’s produced by Lah-Lah Productions and the group’s members Tina Harris and Mark Harris, alongside Kristy Fuller (Dig Deep Creek) and Elaine Beckett (Back of The Net).

Screen Australia has allocated significant funding to kids TV and film projects recently. It earmarked US$7.5 million for new productions, some of which went to Komixx Entertainment’s 10-part children’s drama Itch in January.  Last July, meanwhile, it invested in Aquarius Films’ The Unlisted, Ludo Studio’s Robbie Hood and Cheeky Little’s Spongo, Fuzz and Jalapena. On the film side, it granted new funding to prodco Like A Photon in September for its animated features The Wishmas Tree and Combat Wombat as part of a US$6.5-million production investment to support multi-platform content.
