Palala Boutique Game Lodge & Spa capped by LCP Roofing
Palala Boutique Game Lodge & Spa is located on the Botswana border just 60km from Lephalale. The lodge is a luxurious gateway to the beautiful bush and iconic southern African wildlife and is currently host to a 5-star hotel and restaurant with exquisite views.
As the appointed roofing supplier for the project, LCP Roofing has roofed five new buildings and reroofed two of the existing buildings. “The first building we roofed houses the staff accommodation with a total of 1174m2 of roofing. The accommodation is modern with a few exposed roof trusses, and personally I think the rooms are nicer than some hotels’,” comments Henri Pretorius, LCP Roofing Sales Representative.
During the roofing stage of the accommodation, the LCP Roofing team removed all the tiles off the restaurant and conference area. The building contractor added a few lines, after which new trusses were added to the building. Most of the existing tiles were reused and the existing trusses remained to carry the spectacular existing bulk ceilings.
Next was to roof the 615m2 lapa for the new staff accommodation. This building boasts a modern design with exposed laminated timber beams and shutter board ceilings.
On completion of the lapa, the gym and store room (403m2) in the conference centre were roofed. “One director of Palala lost a bet with our site quality inspector. It was said that our team could not erect the complete timber structure within two days,” comments Pretorius, adding, “Our team erected the timber structure as well as roofing a small braai area for some off the staff at the bush lapa in under two days.”
The conference hall, measuring in at 1327m2 was roofed with two-ply trusses that span 19.2m. The trusses were joined with fish plates in the middle for transportation reasons and a crane was used to hoist the trusses onto the building. These trusses are designed to carry air conditioners, ducting, electrical cables and bulk ceilings.
The lodge is now also host to a new day centre, a steel structure with sheeting, which was erected by steel contractors. This building will host a walk-through showcasing a number of different animals. The spa is currently under construction.
