Brits flocked to the streets to celebrate the end of the Second World War in Europe, celebrating on the streets with parties, dancing and alcohol. In fact, Winston Churchill personally enquired that there was enough beer stocks left in the capital before making his address at 3pm. In his speech, he welcomed the end of the war but said "We may allow ourselves a brief period of rejoicing but let us not forget for a moment the toil and efforts that lie ahead". Victory over Japan was not announced until 15th August 1945. 80 years on we remember those who fought for the freedoms we experience today. It received four stars in the Belgian daily newspaper L'Echo and was described as a 'fabulous exhibition' by the national television station RTBF. Our exhibition, 'Ars Mechanica, la Force d'Innover', dedicated to our FN, Browning and Winchester brands, is open now until the end of July at the La Boverie museum in Liège, a major fine arts museum. Visitors will see historic cars and motorcycles, many of which hold world records dating back to the first half of the 20th century, as well as paintings and sculptures by renowned artists. Of course, military and hunting firearms are also on display, including iconic pieces such as the personal firearms of Napoleon Bonaparte, Ernest Hemingway and Ronald Reagan. The exhibition is the result of over a year's work by my colleagues at the FONDATION ARS MECHANICA and the FN Browning Group. It showcases Liège's expertise and highlights an essential part of Belgian industrial history.
