MELBOURNE’S TOP 5 DOG FRIENDLY CAFE’S
Weekend brunches are quickly becoming one of life’s greatest inventions. But how many times have you walked past a café and seen a handful of dogs tied to the post because they aren’t allowed in? It is a terrible feeling to take your dog for a walk but leave them outside of a café because you don’t know where the dog-friendly ones are. I took to the streets of Melbourne with my little dogs Jasper and Casper in search of the top 5 dog-friendly cafes.
It is pretty common for most places to have a water bowl out the front but I wanted to find cafes that offered me and my doggies more than that. So here is a list of cafes that I think are perfect for you and your dogs to check out.
- Dog House – Collingwood
Address: 15 Johnston Street, Collingwood
Dog House has been named Australia’s first dog café, which includes raw food & a dog accessory store. Their café is filled with all things dog-friendly, from dogachinos (which are made from lactose-free milk), kangaroo mince and smoked pig’s ears. There are mini couches, a huge outdoor area, grooming stations and so much more!
This café is the perfect place to relax with your pooch, or celebrate their next birthday with all their doggie friends!
- The Dog Café – Boronia
Address: 120 Boronia Road, Boronia
Not only does The Dog Café have a water bowl for your pooch, but every dog will be over the moon when they smell their own doggie menu. The menu consists of anything from biscuit snacks to breakfast muffins, but nothing beats the Doggie Donuts.
If you are in the mood to spoil your pooch you can even celebrate their next birthday with all of your doggie friends. A party at The Dog Café includes 90 minutes of doggie games, a bowl of food for every dog, and the perfect birthday cake to end the day.
Now if you think that a doggie birthday just isn’t enough for you, then you can also celebrate your dog’s wedding! At just $30 per dog, you get to experience the wedding ceremony, doggie games, an array of food, and lastly the flawless wedding cake.
If you are ever in Boronia with your pooch be sure to keep The Dog Café in mind!
- The Farm Café – Abbotsford
Address: 18 St Heliers Street, Abbotsford
The Farm Café is in the heart of the Collingwood Children’s farm, which means that not only does this café cater for your pooch but there are many animals to be seen all around you. With gorgeous outdoor areas for you and your pooch, this café is perfect if you want to break out of the city life for a few hours.
- Acai Brothers – Camberwell
Address: 891 Burke Road, Camberwell
Although Acai Brothers from the outside only look as though they can offer your pooch a water bowl, there is much more to offer behind those doors. Acai Brothers are constantly doing promotional activities for people who bring their dogs. In September, you could get 10% off an Acai bowl if you had your pooch. Also, because their bowls are made up of fruit and health foods, they are able to be shared with your furry friends.
If you are ever in Camberwell with your dog be sure to head down and say hello.
- Long Story Short – Port Melbourne
Address: 40 Crockford Street, Port Melbourne
Long Story Short is known for its extravagant food and hot chocolate balls. Located under 2km away from Pickles Street Beach means that it is perfect for an after-beach brunch with your pooch. The café has an abundance of outdoor seating that is perfect for you and your doggie to enjoy the outdoors.
Long Story Short has been known to hold cupcake drives for the RSPCA and are always ready to spoil your pooch upon arrival. The perfect brunch spot for everyone.
