The Foundation Assisting Seniors (FAS) is pleased to announce Archye Jett as the 2022 Nevada Senior Citizen of the Year.
The accolade recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions at the local and/or state level in support of senior citizens and veterans in Nevada.
(Editor note: Since the nomination deadline is mid-year, the award is always for the previous year, in this case 2022.)
Jett, who was one of three finalists, was honored during the Foundations Nevada Senior Citizen of the Year Award Luncheon at The Willows Restaurant, inside Desert Willow Golf Course.
“It is our highest honor to recognize Archye Jett as the 2022 Senior Citizen of the Year for her
contributions to southern Nevada,” said Carol Chapman, president and CEO of Foundation Assisting Seniors. “Archye has donated countless hours to helping those living with food insecurity across our community by providing self-prepared meals. She has impacted more lives than we can count and is truly an inspiration to us all.”
Jett has served over 100,000 meals to the North Las Vegas community over the past 12 years and is known as “Reverend Doctor Chef Archye” by those she serves. Jett faithfully prepares homecooked meals for those in need and brings them to homes, churches, nursing homes, as well as our areas homeless population.
Dona Hoesly, a volunteer with North Las Vegas Veterans Hospital/Clinic and Elks State Chair for Veterans and Frank Sharp, the founder of the JAS Foundation, a nonprofit that services West Wendover residents were among the other two Nevada Senior Citizen of the Year finalists.
The Nevada Senior Citizen of the Year was created by FAS to honor those who give back to their
community. Nominees are elected by their peers, must be Nevada residents and at least 65 years of age. All nominations are reviewed by a committee that includes the chairman of FAS, the senior senator of the Nevada Delegation of the National Silver Haired Congress, and previous winners. Three finalists are selected, and the winner is chosen by a secret ballot cast by committee members.
