Students at James Madison High School must take all the standard courses of a traditional high school curriculum: English, history, math, science, a foreign language and so on.

But the school also offers some classes that many wouldn't expect to find in a high school course catalog. Madison students have the opportunity to take college-level classes in a number of fields, but the topics of these classes are more fascinating than you might think.

Below are the five most unique classes on Madison High School's course catalog:

Gourmet and International Foods

This course goes far beyond a typical family sciences class. Students in this course will learn how to prepare high-level cuisines from all over the globe, and in the process will gain skills in math, science and technology.

Sports and Entertainment Marketing

This course gives Madison students an opportunity to learn more about the sports and entertainment industries, and how they function. In addition to marketing and business skills, students will also learn real-world skills like event planning and critical decision making. 

Entrepreneurship 1

This class is perfect for aspiring leaders and self-starters. Students will learn the intricacies of the business world, especially pertaining to small businesses. Those enrolled will apply the skills they learn by developing a new product, financing it and marketing it to increase sales. 

Architectural Drawing

Just because the word "drawing" is in the name, doesn't mean this is an art class. Students enrolled in this course will learn the history of architecture, the techniques of construction and how to bring their drawings to life through Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) programs.

Combating Intolerance

This course is like no other in the catalog. The course aims to help students make decisions in a complex world as they transition through high school by discussing fundamental ethical issues like the nature of prejudice, discrimination and stereotyping, as well as personal and governmental responsibilities for dealing with these issues.
