Hello, About to pull the trigger on a set of fog light bulbs for my 2013 prius. Ive done some research and it appears that either bulb size will fit? H16 being the stock size. My route is going to be a set of HID 3k fogs and just want to make sure they "fit". Thanks
It's H11, but don't do it. The foglights are reflector based lights and don't have a physical cutoff shield that prevents glare from blinding others. HIDs are up to 3 times brighter than the oem bulbs, so you are making it even worse. I have 2500k Nokya H11 halogen bulbs in my Camry and they look great, but there's still glare, even adjusted to the lowest angle.
Where are people getting the information that the fog bulb is H16? The 2010 owners manual clearly states that the front fog lights take H11 halogen bulbs. What fog light bulbs do the Prius v take? Perhaps it's wrong information carried over to the newer manuals from that?
Definitely H11 and to echo @xliderider definitely avoid HID in there. The fog housings are some of the worst housings I've seen for glare. No matter how low you adjust them, they scatter light like crazy. It would be a king douche move putting HID in there. Stick with halogen.
I was confused here also because I took the bulb out my 2012 and it looks exactly like a H11 but it says H16 19w.....so I ordered H16 leds. When they came in they looked nothing like the bulb I took out my prius, they didn't make a 90 like the H11's do so I was then confused. So trying to find a H11 in a led that was not 55w was tricky. I ended up searching and found some guys on the Rav4 forum that were having the same issues and I decided to go with what they went with which was a LED H11 30w 5000k which look great with my factory HID's. Heres the link below as ive had them a few weeks now with no issues. H11/H8/H9 LED Bulb | H11 CREE LED Fog Light Bulb
Search eBay for H16 H11 bulbs and there are multiple listings that come up with bulbs compatible with both H11/H16 sizes that have the 90 degree mounting base. The H8 bulb also is commonly included as there is only a slight difference between the H11 and H8 base (link in my sig has a pic showing the difference).
Found this interesting and informative link regarding the confusion between the H16/5202 bulbs: The Difference Between H16 and 5202 Bulbs | Better Automotive Lighting Blog
5000k is more white 6000k has some blue to it so it's really personal preference.. I have the 5000k though and they look great
Could it be keepitsimple that the H16 is in referring to the LED DLR lights under the turn signal lights on the 2013 prius and not the actual fog lights that are on each corner of the lower grill under the front bumper?
