Very soon, one of New York City's most iconic signs will no longer be part of its skyline.
According to The Real Deal, permits that the Jehovah's Witnesses, the former owners of the Watchtower building, filed to take down the sign last month have been approved by the Department of Buildings.
Sadly, following in the footsteps of other iconic NYC signage, the Watchtower sign is making way for a redevelopment project in of the city's once-commercial areas.
Last year, NY's Jehovah's Witnesses sold their former Brooklyn Heights headquarters to developer Columbia Heights Associates–a collab between Kushner Companies, CIM Group and LIVWRK–as part of a property sale spree to relocate upstate. The sale totaled $340 million.
Seriously. $340. Million. Damn.
The old home of the Watchtower sign will be redeveloped into the mega multi-use development Panorama.

The redevelopment will bring 635,000 square feet of office space plus an additional 35,000 square feet of retail and public-facing outdoor space to New Yorkers.
However, the new home of the Watchtower sign is still up in the air. Fingers crossed it's relocated to somewhere visible to all.
