Chancellorsville Tour Stop 1 markerThe Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center is Stop 1 on the Chancellorsville Battlefield Auto Tour. The Visitor Center is a great place to start a Chancellorsville visit by learning the background of the battle and becoming oriented to the Chancellorsville battlefield. It is also the site where Confederate Lieutenant General Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson was mortally wounded by the accidental fire of his own men on the evening of May 1, 1863.

Location of the Visitor Center

The Chancellorsville Battlefield Visitor Center is just north of Plank Road, Virginia Route 3, nine miles west of the Fredericksburg exit 130 on Interstate 95. There is an entrance to the visitor center just to its east off Plank Road or it can be entered via Bullock Road. Plank Road is a divided highway, but both sets of lanes have access to both entrances. (38°18’40.2″N 77°39’01.2″W)
