Gift Card Yarn Bombs Are So Much Fun

Looking for a fun and creative ways to wrap a gift cards? I came up with a super FUN idea–make yarn bombs!

All you need to do this fun gift card idea is some yarn!

Creative Ways To Wrap Gift Cards
Creative Ways To Wrap Gift Cards

I used to be old school and think gift cards are a generic gift that was a bit (dare I say) lazy. But, the truth is that gift cards often make a great gift choice because your recipient will be able to use it to buy something they truly want. People like being gifted gift cards.

Why Coming Up With Creative Ways To Wrap Gift Cards Is Important

I like to make gifts feel thoughtful. I’ve shared my thoughts with you before on the importance of wrapping a gift card in a thoughtful way, it just lets the recipient know that you really were thinking of them and what they would like.

Did you know that 44% of all gift card purchases are reported by shoppers to be a last minute need? You don't want your gift coming off as last minute. Taking a moment to come up with creative ways to wrap gift cards help with that!

So, today I’ve teamed up with Target to share a creative gift card wrapping idea that you can easily recreate.

Not only is this fun to wrap, it's even more fun to watch someone open, no matter their age (like really fun)!

All you need is some yarn (you can snag some from Amazon) and a gift card.

Why Giving (and Receiving) Yarn Bombs Are Fun

We've agreed gift cards make great gifts. But what makes them even better is when you make the recipient work for it––just  little.

When I was younger my aunt used to wrap the tiny box in the bigger box, inside of the bigger box. You never knew when the wrapping was going to end. I thought it was so much fun and wanted to make my own version of that.

Meet, the gift card yarn bomb.

You can also use the yarn bomb wrapping method to wrap small items and toys like I did for Valentine's Day.

How to Make Gift Card Yard Bombs

See how I used yarn to wrap this gift card below. These are the steps:

  • Tie one end of your yard around your gift card
  • Begin wrapping the yarn around and around the gift card
  • Stop when you're "ball" of yarn is your desired size
  • Cut your yarn and tuck it into the ball
  • Option to add a tag that says "pull"
Steps for making yarn bombs as gifts

First, purchase your gift card and a ball of yarn in whatever color(s) you like. Secure the gift card by tying the yarn around it and knotting it. Then, you will begin wrapping away.

Wrap, wrap, and wrap some more. You will want to basically remake the yarn ball with the gift card now at its center. You can make this as big as you’d like. The bigger you make it, the longer it will take your recipient to unravel.

Once you get to your desired size, loop on a tag that says “pull” and tuck the loose end of the yarn under so it doesn’t unravel on its own.

Looking for a unique way to wrap a gift card? These mini yarn bombs are so simple to wrap and make giving a gift card a lot more thoughtful and fun.

Use different colors of yarn and tie on any embellishments that you’d like. I tied a small jingle bell to these because they were Christmas gifts.

When it comes time to give your gift card yarn bomb, sit back and enjoy the unraveling fun!

Additional Creative Ways To Wrap Gift Cards

Although wrapping a gift card with yarn is my favorite idea, here are some alternative creative ways to wrap gift cards:

  • Use wrapping paper and wrap it like a mini present. Tie ribbon around it to make it extra thoughtful
  • Instead of wrapping the gift card with yarn, use strips of plaid fabric like these DIY plaid ornaments
  • Wrap it in a toilet paper tube for a cute presentation (see this post: How to wrap gift cards for an example)
  • Wrap it in a small box, then put that box in a bigger box. Wrap and repeat as many times as you'd like!
  • For Christmas gift card gifts you can put the gift card in a mini stocking
  • If you want to give a gift card in an envelope (like in a birthday card), dress it up by tieing a balloon around the envelope. This will make it feel a little more fun.

Very cute and fun idea. My mother likes to knit baby blankets for the church and I always try to find a different way to give her gift cards at Christmas time, whether it's a wreath, tree, or in a wallet but this year I am giving her yarn bombs. I have gotten 4 different color yarns ( full skeins) and am going to ask her to make something with the yarn and NOT tell her there is anything inside them so,when she gets to the end she will be so surprised.

I showed a friend of mine this wrapping idea and she loved it! Within minutes she began wrapping her first bomb of the season. I will be wrapping a couple myself. This is a great idea!
