At Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS), a Thematic Research Group (TRG) is a focused, productive, and impactful research group within a faculty dedicated to strengthening research capacity and improving the quality of education, research, and community service. TRGs are led by a leader and are characterized by their focus on specific research themes, active engagement in research activities, and contributions to the advancement of knowledge, innovation, and societal problem-solving.
The TRG will be led by a leader and integrated with several strategic programs, for example:
A team of experts collaborating to advance knowledge and solve complex scientific problems.
Integrates agricultural sciences to enhance sustainable farming, food production, and rural development
Studies human behavior, societies, and social relationships to understand and improve societal dynamics
Advances technology and scientific knowledge through innovative research and practical applications
Focuses on improving health outcomes through medical research, clinical practice, and public health initiatives
Provides practical skills and training for specific trades and professions to enhance employability
Combines multiple academic disciplines to address complex problems with comprehensive, integrated approaches
Our research has significantly advanced knowledge in various fields, contributing to innovative solutions and groundbreaking discoveries
The ClimateREEFS program focuses on developing socially equitable pathways for climate adaptation in coastal communities that rely on coral reef ecosystems, particularly in Indonesia and the Philippines. The initiative integrates multidisciplinary research to address the vulnerabilities of these communities, especially marginalized groups such as women, who are often disproportionately affected by climate change.
Key components of the program include:
Hasanuddin University is among the key partners in this initiative, collaborating with institutions such as Pattimura University, the University of Leeds, and international NGOs like Rare and the Coral Reef Alliance. The program aims to inform sustainable fisheries management and reef conservation at both local and national levels

The COSMARindo project, supported by the G20 Coral Research & Development Accelerator Platform (CORDAP), focuses on enhancing coral restoration efforts in Indonesia. This initiative emphasizes integrating advanced monitoring and educational approaches to address challenges in coral reef restoration and conservation. It aims to build capacity among local stakeholders, improve techniques for coral restoration, and foster innovative practices to ensure sustainable recovery of coral ecosystems.
Hasanuddin University is one of the key partners in this program, collaborating with other institutions to advance restoration strategies and support community-based conservation efforts. This partnership highlights the university's commitment to coral ecosystem sustainability through multidisciplinary research and education initiatives.
