North Conway, New Hampshire
With waterfalls and the Northeast’s tallest mountain (Mt. Washington, at 6,288 feet), White Mountain National Forest, near North Conway, is a great fall hiking destination. In the town itself are more than 100 restaurants, as well as plenty of local craft and antiques shops. Peak foliage occurs in early October.
