Walter Ego - 2006
Ready to play at their eighth Big Wheel Blues Festival Walter Ego formed
sometime back in the Palaeolithic era just after the retreat of the great ice
sheet. They still have fun whenever they play and so it's unlikely that
they are going to stop in the near future.
Derek Baldwin, Bass, Walter Ego
|
Having said that there have been
some major changes over the years and sadly this year saw the departure of
original bassist Derek Baldwin. His solid underpinning of the music was
legendary but now former Condition Blue bass player Martin Jones has stepped up
to provide those low notes and is settling in very nicely indeed. And then in
April 2006 the band made
an announcement that "Steve has now left to follow a rockier path and is in
the process of putting together a new band." and thus Walter Ego reverts to a
three piece.
So, the line-up now is
Jim Houghton drums & vocals
Martin Jones Bass
John Barker Guitar & vocals
The music has the Blues at it's core but Walter Ego set lists are also likely
to reflect the contents of John's record collection (Neil Young, Led Zeppelin,
The Lemonheads, Tom Waits, Eels, White Stripes, Richard Thompson, John Martyn,
Elvis Costello and Lucinda Williams to name a few) together with a few
originals slipped in without anyone noticing.
