Birdwell was born in Santa Ana, California when Carrie Birdwell - Mann started making some of the first boardshorts purpose-built for surfers all over the California coast. She called them Beach Britches. With a function first design and a commitment to durability, we've been hand-making boardshorts in the USA since 1961. Today, we make a full line of apparel and accessories for a beach lifestyle filled with function and fun. Quality is still our Gimmick.
