We're working hard to get the new content out as quickly as possible. One day this page will serve as a gateway for most information related to the expansion.

Pushing statues to the appropriate spot is one of the many dungeon puzzles you'll encounter in the Sims 3 World Adventures

The Main Feature: Travel
The biggest addition to The Sims 3 brought by World Adventures is the ability to travel to three destinations in the world. This feature acts a bit like a vacation. You'll go home after a set amount of days based on your traveling Sims' combined VISA levels. These VISA points add up and eventually unlock new levels. Having a higher level, combined with lifetime rewards and certificates of partnership with those countries will eventually extend the time frame you can stay in a country from three days to a full eighteen with a single Sim. Other members of your Sim's family who come along will also add their travel days to the tally, bringing it up to a potential of 72 days in a foreign land.

The New Travel Destinations
Simmers can travel to three places from around the world. In travel destinations, you can meet with the locals and form new friendships, experience an entirely different map to explore and pursue adventures. There is a specific skill associated with each area, which will be detailed in their associated guides. The new locations are:

  • Al Simhara, Egypt - This place sells the best cameras in the game and is the unofficial "home" of the new Photography skill because of this. This place features the most challenging adventures in the game for some Sims, because there are mummies inside which can put a deadly curse on your Sim.
  • Champs Les Sims, France - Here Sims can learn to make nectar. Nectar Making allows Sims to brew drinks to serve at parties or to themselves, which give a nice mood boost when consumed. France has a beautiful countryside setting and features some unique dungeons to explore.
  • Shang Simla, China - Home to Martial Arts, a new skill that works with the athletic skill to improve a Sim's fighting ability. It's the only place to get started in this popular skill. There are some neat sites to see, such as the Terracotta Army and the Dragon Cave.

Check back later, a full list of what the shopkeepers offer in each destination will be detailed, along with some general information on the sites you can visit while vacationing.

The dungeons in the Sims 3's World Adventures can be huge, but easy to navigate.

Adventures
In each location you can visit, there is an adventure board outside the base camp. This behaves a lot like the opportunities in the normal game, but you'll be allowed one extra slot for each location giving you the ability to take up a mission in each. Adventures can be as simple as collecting a certain material and returning it to the quest giver, talking to some of the locals to convince them of another Sim's opinion or as complex as doing some tomb raiding and exploring one of the expansion's many dungeons.

You'll earn VISA points and ancient coins, as well as Simoleons from completing these tasks. Often, you'll be asked to go into a dungeon and search it for a missing artifact. These can come in the form of collectible item sets, ancient relics and fragments that can be assembled for place on your home lot. For example, get enough sarcophagus fragments and you can build a sarcophagus back at home that will allow your Sim to sleep like an Egyptian King.

Every Location has a general store where you can purchase supplies for adventuring. New items like dried food, the shower in a can and a variety of different quality tents make sleeping and surviving in a dungeon much easier to accomplish. The general stores are always located in that town's market area, so look for it on your map.

As you accumulate more ancient coins, and raise your Sim's visa level in that destination, you'll gradually be able to purchase new items in the special store. Some are quite powerful. One actually reveals all the locations of excavation sites on the map for your Sim so they can easier find them and line their pockets with riches and ancient relics for their collections.

Pushing statues to appropriate spots is one of the many puzzles you'll encounter in the Sims 3 World Adventures' dungeons.

Dungeons
Inside dungeons, your Sims will encounter traps, puzzles and even mummies. None of the puzzles are too challenging, but some might require a little thinking ahead to be done right. In short you'll be looking around more often and paying attention to the new rooms you unlock, looking for hidden switches and floor traps. Most of the dungeons are fairly linear, and can be completed quickly. Some will find this a welcome addition, as it's often satisfying when you unlock that door to the next room.

Inside you'll find some of the best new additions. Some dungeons are much larger than others and feature many many items. Keep an eye out for ancient coins on the ground and look for collectible jars and other relics of the past which can be very valuable. You can sell them or form a collection to display at home. It's exciting when you discover a new relic that's worth a sizable amount of money. This makes adventuring a viable way to make money in the game. True adventurers will be really annoyed when they have to go home for a couple days in between trips and may find themselves looking for something to do.

Old Skills' Involvement in World Adventures
Thankfully, if your Sim is stuck at home in between adventures there's still plenty to do. Work on the old skills, namely fishing, cooking and charisma, in order to get new options when adventuring. It'll help a lot when you're tasked to convince villagers or fish for a particular catch if your Sim is already skilled in those areas. You'll also need a way to make money quickly if you want to be able to afford all those trips. The base price for a 3 day stay starts at $1300 for for China, $1600 for Egypt and $1900 for France. There is a nice discount for longer trips as you improve the VISA level. The new jetsetter lifetime reward provides a discount of around 20% for all trips.

Nectar Making, one of the new skills in the Sims 3 World Adventures

The New Skills in World Adventures

  • Martial Arts - Learned in China. This skill will make your Sim a powerful fighter. You'll beat up mummies and other Sims with ease once it's mastered. The skill also allows you to meditate, which gives a meditative focus moodlet. This moodlet boosts skill gains and flat makes the Sim better at everything they do. Achieve mastery of meditation and your Sim can teleport, further pursue challenges related to martial arts and you may one day be able to use the ultra-powerful tranquil transference ability, meaning a meditative master need never own the personal teleporter to get around quickly.
  • Nectar Making - Learned in France. Gardeners and master chefs will love this. You can take produce from the garden and turn it into a passive form of income. Nectar can be aged and can rack up a tidy sum pretty quickly if you allow the bottles time to generate value. It's just one more reason to take up the great gardening skill. The grapes in France will help to offer you more options to growing plants, to boot. Other destinations also have new fruits that can be grown which will give you a grand total of ten new plants to raise to perfect.
  • Photography - Primarily in Egypt. While you can buy a Snaptastic Flimsy Cam in any of the locations, Egypt's general store sells the very best 2 models. There are a lot of subjects to capture if your Sim keeps their camera on them at all times. Read up on my guide to getting started in this skill before you take it on. In short, Photography is not an amazing money maker at first but provides some additional income to early level adventurers who need every bit of money they can get.

New Lifetime Wishes and Traits
There are 8 new lifetime wishes to be pursued with the World Adventures expansion. They're all related in some way to the new skills. Your Sim might want to master both martial arts and athletics, or even secure level 3 VISAs in all three countries. Maybe they'd like to have an excellent wine collection. This adds a lot more replayability to a game that's already chock full of good challenges to take one.

There are of course new traits to augment the new skills and travel itself. Sims with the Adventurous trait will experience less downtime in between adventures and be happiest when they are off exploring the exotic destinations. Disciplined Sims will find Martial Arts an easy skill to master, and be better at it in general. Photographer's Eye will increase the rate a Sim learns Photography and create higher quality pictures they can sell. There doesn't seem to be any trait for Nectar Making, although gardening is always a good to accompany this skill, as Green Thumbs will raise perfect plants faster than other Sims, making some very fine Nectar indeed.

Snakes come out of a hole, scaring a Sim in World Adventures

The old traits will also see some extra use. Brave Sims and Daredevils will do better while adventuring for example. It might not hurt to explore some other combinations to see just how they can help your Sim in their Adventure.

New Lifetime Rewards
Something I was sorely hoping for in this expansion pack was new options to spend my Lifetime Happiness Points. Thankfully, the expansion delivered nicely. There are a total of 11 new rewards Sims can buy from all price ranges. Many will be happy to see that the fun and energy needs are easier to satisfy with a couple of them. Sims can learn to become prepared travelers and be allowed to spend more time in each destination, also. You'll also find a reward called no bills, ever which is definitely worth purchasing as your Sim will need to spend more and more money per week in bills as they accumulate a massive stash of relics to decorate the home with.

New Objects for the Home
There are dozens of new items for the home in World Adventures. Simmers who like decorating won't be disappointed with the new additions. There is also a fortune cookie machine (from China) which Sims can use. If they get a good fortune, they'll be happy. Handy Sims can even modify this machine to always give good fortunes! Great for a quick snack before work.

The expansion also adds a new hidden skill, Snake Charming. Read the Al Simhara Guide to learn more. It can remove the mummy's curse preventing a Sim's death and saving them a trip to the Great Sphinx to remove it.

New Build Mode Cheats: Tomb Creation
You can now create tombs using a cheat in build mode that will allow you to access hidden items. Check our guide to Tomb Creation to learn more!

Excavating in the Sims 3 World Adventures to find relics and other hidden treasures.

Additions to Existing Skills
There's a ton of new content out there for players who love the fishing, collecting, cooking and gardening skills. There are several new types of gems, gem cuts, and metals like Mummitomium. Players who find the rare tiberium rocks can save them until they turn radioactive and sell them for a hefty sum. Frogs, Crawfish, Crocodiles, Mummy Fish, Dragon Fish and Koi are all caught out in the world. Recipes for each region have been added to the recipe book.

All these changes to existing skills have led to tweaks in the way the challenges for those skills work. For example, at one time you needed to catch all fish in the game for one fishing challenge. Now you need catch only 20 of those types. This isn't hard, but most of these challenges will require your Sim to travel to one of the new locations to find the next new thing. This is good, as it lends a more adventurous tone to the world with plenty of exploration to be done.

What I would like to know is: How do your sims age when on vacation? Do they just age normally? And; What happens if you leave some household members behind? Do they just go on with life as CPUs until you get back or does everything just stay the same?
Admin:
They don't age at all while on vacation. You will leave Sunset Valley at 11:02 am on Thursday and arrive back in Sunset Valley at 11:03 am on the same Thursday.

Does the game population have something to do with the real life china population?
That might be hard to load billions of chinese sims =.=

Your game is probably glitched or has too much data on in it. Your computer memory may be the problem or it downloaded wrong which it can do. Try uninstalling then re-installing it.

Whenever I try to travel, it doesn't work. The mood meter is a blue shade my sim does not appear anywhere and I can't go anywhere. I have tried with three different households and it does not work with any of them. If someone could help that would be great!

Your sim should appear at base camp if you are a noob to that country. I do not know why you can't go anywhere. The mood meter is quite weird too. Your game is probably glitched or needs updating.

i use testingcheatsenabled and freerealestate alot, would those cheats cause any problems with Generations, World Adventures Or Supernatural? it isnt causing problems with Late Night, but i just need to make sure.

NA7 says...
It shouldn't but your game may eventually start glitching. You can get vacation homes for free with freerealestate and cheat in tombs with testingcheatsenabled by teleporting but you will have to do some work in tombs so you can actually see rooms in most tombs.

hey I have a problem when trying to install the world adventure expansion pack. when I'm trying to install it, a message that says and I quote

"The setup has detected that the regional install code for The Sims 3 is different then what this expansion requires.

This product requires The Sims 3 to have the same regional code in order to be installed."

When I already installed the sims 3 to my computer and my other expansion packs that I installed to my laptop work just fine and World Adentures I just bought too with the expanstion bundle. So I want to know what should I do. And I'd apriciate a respond back!

Playalot says...
Not really, you can reset the world and make it 'brand new again' but this will also wipe any friends from the worlds and holiday homes your sim may own etc:
There is no way to reset quest data as they are stored with the individual sim or household. There are two methods for reseting tombs though.

1: Go to your savegame folder at My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Saves\<savegame\

While your current save is NOT in the country in question. Delete the country's .nhd file. The next time you launch the game it (or travel, not really sure which) a new .nhd will be generated. The entire country, tombs and all will be reset.

Save your game before doing this and make a back up copy too. That way if something goes wrong you can either quit without saving or just play the back up copy.

My sim, who was a vampire, died in Shang Simla. I missed one of the test boxes, so I have no idea if I can take back his grave!

It's important, because I play Legacy (A challange where you have to make 10 generation living in a house you build without money cheats or anything) and I need to make a graveyard where all the generation are put in.

Anyone who knows how to get the grave back? Can I even get the grave back, or is it lost forever?

During my trip to China, I accepted the quest "The Pilgrim's" and first had to visit Scholar's Garden. But unfortunately, I got there and nothing happened next. Yes,it resets for every sim except the ones who have already done it. Me and my husband sometimes do the same ones sometimes. You will have to re-disarm traps and you will have to push and pull the statues again to open doors. You can collect the treasures too.

When your sim is in the market area with the book shop etc take your camera down a level and then you should see the store. For some reason it has been built down a level for the camera while really being on the same level as the other shops...a weird quirk I guess.
