Timberline Mountain has experienced perhaps the most drama of any ski area in the Mid-Atlantic in recent years. Following many years of decay and controversy, the resort filed for bankruptcy in 2019 and was placed on the auction block. In late 2019, Timberline was purchased by Indiana-based Perfect North Slopes, and they immediately set in place an aggressive capital improvement plan to re-open a revitalized Timberline in time for the 2020-2021 Winter Season, including the replacement of chairlifts. You can learn all about Timberline’s transformation in DCSki’s extensive feature story The Renaissance of Timberline.

Guests to Timberline Mountain for the 2020-2021 winter season experienced a dramatically improved resort. While the great views, ample snow, and peak of 4,268 feet above sea level have been constants at Timberline, the new ownership has raised the bar by modernizing the resort and showing a commitment to make Timberline once of the best ski hills in the Mid-Atlantic.

Timberline is located two miles from the Canaan Valley ski area, but offers more advanced terrain than its neighbor. Steeps and bumps can be found throughout the resort’s trails, as well as some gladed skiing. Beginner terrain is also available, although beginners may feel more comfortable at Canaan Valley. The lengthy 2-mile long Salamander run at Timberline offers an easy-going pitch that is good for beginners.

Timberline Mountain focuses on skiing and snowboarding, and has modest lodge facilities. Timberline does not have a tubing hill, and does not currently offer many summer activities.
