Tonight was all about Don Omar and the late, great Jenni Rivera.
Both artists were top winners at the 2013 Billboard Latin Music Awards in Miami, with Omar scoring a whopping 10 awards (they don't call him El Rey) for nothing, and Rivera, who died in a plane crash in December, posthumously winning six trophies.
Omar, who led the field with a whopping 18 nominations, took home Song Artist of the Year, Male, and Airplay Song of the year for "Dutty Love," featuring Natty Natasha.
Meanwhile, among her six awards, Rivera was acknowledged for Regional Mexican Album of the Year for La Gran Señora and was also awarded the night's top prize, Artist of the Year. Her parents and two of her children accepted the win on her behalf.
The show also paid tribute to Rivera with a montage of clips from live performances and her reality-TV show, I Love Jenni. Her brother Juan Rivera sang his sister's song "No Llega el Olvido" accompanied by a mariachi band.
"You are my diva," Rivera's father, Pedro Rivera, said in accepting the awards. "May God bless you, my daughter."
"We know she continues living in our hearts and through music," her mother, Rosa Saavedra, added.
Shakira, Romeo Santos, La Arrolladora Banda el Limon de Rene Camacho and Natty Natasha each took home three awards.
